I just recently bought a jon boat but it’s so funny because you live in my childhood house in bellingrath. I grew up playing in the creek behind the house

a bottle of tite bond III to seal the edges of the plywood before painting. what you did works. Then a tarp to cover and pvc to cover it during those long periods.

Great jobs fellas! I’ve got the same boat but 15 ft with a 9.9 Mercury how much weight did that add to the boat do you think I’d be fine? Man I wish I got my lumber a year ago that plywood is $90 a sheet and a 6 ft 2x4 is almost $12 dollars 🤣😂😅 but the boat build looks great

i just bought a 10ft 48 wide for 100 bucks only had one leak in it too. looking to mod mine like this that looks great. started planning for it. I guess i would have to mount pvc on sides to support more weight and stabilize better? still looks good after 2 years (your build)

3/4 to 11/16 plywood would not warp as bad or get a more expensive wood sheet. It will add a little more weight but do a good job.

I have to say you did a great job for only 150 bucks. Only thing would have changed would have used hinges instead of straps. And they make handles for compartments. I'd like to do this with my boat but covering it all the time is kind of a pain in the butt. Loos like it's held up well considering it's in the elements.
@darrylvieregge592

I looked what you did and how you did it. Was the plywood treated? If so use good water seal. Everyone I've talked to so far has used half inch treated plywood. Electrical can get costly but if you plan it out first it's reasonable. I'd also add a solar battery charger just to be safe.

Hey guys, nice job! I found a great way of making door accesses on my rebuilds and talk about "CHEAP"! I find these boats on Marketplace where folks have no titles. I buy access panels (doors) with the hinges attached for nearly nothing, and some for free. I build my frames for storage and attach these lids (doors). Also, another cheap use of strong material for framing are bed frames that I cut, drill and bolt together. Most bed frames I find cost me $10. As for carpet I go to apartment complexes and carpet stores and do some some "dumpster diving". I always get permission from management though. I also find 2x4's and occasionally some plywood or OSB board. Most of my costs are in the hardware until the electronics come into play and new/used rod holders. Thanks again and great build!

Looking to swap from my kayak to a Jon boat. Aiming for a 1448 for max stability but still can be stored in our garage. If your budget is enough, I would go with aluminum framing for an upgrade. Stronger and lighter. Also consider non-wood options for decking as well.

I wish someone would do actual stability examples in videos..only one ive seen is a guy jumping from seat to seat...cause everyone fishes like that...smh But a video about real fishing examples with different size boats would be a great video to show people what size they may need. A 1236 may be perfect for a single guy and a 1436 maybe needed for 2...ect...u get my point...now if you can pull together all the diffent sizes needed..lmao..
