15th October 1966: With either Manchester United or Chelsea appearing in all but two editions of Match of the Day, up to this point, it comes as no surprise to see the BBC cameras at Old Trafford for their first meeting of the season. Unknown to Chelsea any thoughts of winning League title vanished two weeks ago when their young playmaker Peter Osgood was carried off with a season ending broken leg following a tackle by Blackpool's Emlyn Hughes in a League Cup 3rd Round tie. In age where retribution would be swift and brutal Osgood's injury came just four days after his arrogant and posturing display for Chelsea in their televised clash with Manchester City. Although he still became a Chelsea legend Peter Osgood had to completely reconstruct his game to play at the top level again where it glittered all to briefly. As if to illustrate football's brutality at this particular time it's well worth watching the game just to see Chelsea left back Eddie McCreadie come off worse trying to break Bobby Charlton's leg.
