Such a GREAT house and the Little Fox, the next block down is equally nice. It's been wonderful seeing these old houses getting brought back to life over the last twenty years. While there is something about the big sheds, these moderate sized houses are the perfect place to get in close with an act!

Multiple trains, running between S.F. and San Jose on about a ten to fifteen minute headway all day -- especially in the morning and mid afternoon/evening commutes. Looking at the interior of the building, especially the lobby, I remember talking with Bonnie Raitt over at the Paramount in Oakland, she referred to all of the decor as "jewelry for the building". As one who studied architecture in college 9MANY years ago!), These older theatres are something truly special and need to be guarded as part of our heritage!

I worked around the corner from there in the early '80s. Back then that big plaza in your opening was a large concrete county government building, which was torn down in 2005 to open up the view of the museum, which was the old circa-1910 courthouse. The neighborhood buildings had seen better days by the '80s, mostly typical local businesses, and the nearby tech boom of the '90s didn't result in much new development in town. But the last fifteen years or so have massively transformed it with enormous apartment buildings, ground-level restaurant/retail, and office buildings giving it a more urban feel. Places that were basically Joe's appliance store and Bill's barbershop now have office buildings with venture capitalists and white-shoe New York law firms.

@TFinSF

@@artemisXsidecross I wouldn't say that, Artemis. Overall it is a big improvement, with the '50s concrete government building replaced by a nice open plaza, run-down (even seedy)buildings replaced by nicer more welcoming buildings, while some older architecturally interesting places (some Victorian houses turned into offices and museums). But the change can be jarring or sad compared to your memories, in the Gertrude Stein sense.
@artemisXsidecross

@@TFinSF I am more with Gertrude Stein. We moved to S.F. late ’65 and I would not say the city is better now. I do not think tall buildings and modernity has done the city much good for most citizens.

As I'm writing this, a train whistle is blowing out in the valley here...nice timing! lol My dad loved trains, and had wanted to be an engineer when he grew up...had model trains that we all loved when I was a kid. Thanks for the tour and the memories, Leland! 🚂❤

Great video as usual Lee. The train reminded me of the great Brian Wilson who utilized the sound of a train at the end of his self penned song, Caroline, No. His dogs, Banana and Louie, can be heard barking as the train slowly fades out. Perhaps your two guys can make a similar appearance one day on a recording...
