Very well made video, great information. That's why dimple locks or restricted keyways are more secure in this regard.

Thank you for sharing. I have shared this video with someone I know informing them that their work (where safety and security is very important) that they should implement rules surrounding key safety. Currently, even the most senior employees attach their keys to a lanyard along with their ID and one of their keys is a very common brand and type of key.

I will continue to work on it. I like deep false sets , don’t like to force pins with a lot of pressure. Like to gently go with the counter rotation and set the pin

I guessed your first key code correctly BY YOUR PHOTO {er, uh video}, and also decoded most all or your pile of keys, so now I have ALL your key codes. So NOW I'm rushing out to my HPC Blitz machine and cutting all your keys BECAUSE you showed me "pictures" of them all! AH HA, you violated your first rule -- OK then, well presented information -- funny when I use a key gauge I always have the key bow on the bottom of the gauge and work my way down to each cut, starting at # 1 -- guess it's just how you learn it (must be because you are a "lefty" & I'm RIGHT, ha, ha)

Could you use a key gauge to help impression a key so you’re not randomly swiping with a file and can move it from like a 1 to a 2 cut rather than guessing

They really don't even need to be purchased as code cut keys, all someone really needs is the blanks (around $0.95 USD). I started making keys last month and it's a whole lot easier to file a key down than you would think... Granted you definitely have to pay more attention to macs when repinning and rekeying, but still only takes a couple minutes to do.

I don’t need a code because I can pick most locks in seconds! Locks keep honest people honest. I really believe in the next few years, we will be a keyless society and safer. Having said that, you will never be able to keep the crooks out of your house.

@HelpfulLockPicker

@@lockenthusiastlocken8990 you would look up a chart and compare your measurements to the chart to get the code. You can either compare the height you measure on the key or you can physically measure the keypin but those would be two different charts

With Schlage keys, you don't even need a gauge. The bitting is already stamped on the key!
@HelpfulLockPicker
6 жыл бұрын
CandyGramForMongo I would say that is true to some but not all. Those make great keys to keep as a backup but I would get mine duplicated so I wouldn't have to code stamped on it

I went on a lock out call one day for a customer who had locked his keys in the trunk of his Ford. I picked the trunk lock and got the keys out but he thought I was charging too much because it didn't take me very long to open his trunk. I took a look at the trunk key and tossed the keys back in the trunk and closed it, then got in my van, got out my code cutter and cut a key to what the cuts looked like. He agreed to pay more than the initial charge and I handed him the key. The key worked so he now had a spare. I'd like to add, always when you move into a new place have the locks changed because you never know who the previous owner or tenant gave a key to. Any locksmith can tell you stories about that situation.
@HelpfulLockPicker
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing. I thought you were going to throw the keys back in the trunk and drive off. I have heard people do that before. I 100% agree on rekeying the locks. When I bought my house it only came with 1 key that went to maybe 2 of the locks. It was fun picking / shimming all the locks open, and rekeying them to one key with decent bitting and matched with some security pins.
