For those wondering what the letters spelled out in the beginning SMPTE Leader, it spelled out the following: “HEADS - NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY FOUR SEASONS SERIES - “AUTUMN” #05503” The leader is dated October 15, 1983.

Getting memories of watching old film reels when I was in grade school. Always loved these countdown leaders.

The FilmFair film leader countdowns give off a more cruder, hand drawn style.

Adobe Premiere Pro still has that neat "Universal Counting Leader" feature that was introduced in Premiere 5.0 back in 1998 that's a digital full-on recreation of the SMPTE Universal Leader (labeled as the ADOBE Universal Leader.) It's meant for preparing videos for broadcast, but it can especially come in handy if you're making a video in Premiere Pro that is emulating an old 16mm film or something; just apply an "Aged Film" filter of some kind to the countdown leader along with the rest of the video!

I mean, it’s film leader, who owns the copyright to a countdown? Anyone can use film leader freely without any risk of a copyright claim.

I did, but took it down due to a frame rate error when rendering it. It should be re-uploaded in a few seconds.

@@TheVintageTVArchive They don't seem quite as well known anymore, and there was also basically two separate studios as well, one in the US that mostly did TV commercials while the other in the UK was best known for stop-motion series like Paddington Bear and the Wombles.

@@TheVintageTVArchive The leaders in particular you've shown come from the US version that went by "FilmFair Communications" at the time. Aside from distributing the UK counterparts productions on film for school use, I noticed they had one film they produced that was nominated for an Oscar in '84.... kzitem.info/news/bejne/1XydmHmakqmneJg
