To be fair to Henry VIII, I can't believe I just typed that, when he was young, he was called the most handsome prince in Europe. It was later in life that his looks started to match is personality.

I was about to type something similar, to add to it I'd say that his personality only matched how he's remembered later in life as well. He was actually very popular and generous as a young king (arguably too generous really). His reign started like a Disney happy ever after but his life after that is actually rather tragic.

True. It wasn’t until the death of his 3rd wife Jane Seymour, who died giving birth to his only male heir is when he started overeating and didn’t care for his health. He became isolated from the public as he was mourning and gained so much weight and aged considerably due to his grief and stress.

I did a report on him for college when I was living in Spain. After reading up on all the medical conditions he had I just KNOW he was scary to look at. And still he had the audacity to have Eugenia Vallejo at court to laugh at because she was larger. Pieza de mierda 😂

There's a difference between a portrait done by Hans Holbein of the people of Henry the Eight ,his family and court. The same with Van Dyke and other famous artists.

your research should have brought you in contact with why children were painted as 'little adults' for a very long time in history. The modern concepts of childhood, adolescence, young adult etc. did not always exist and there were religious factors involved too, but mainly because children were seriously thought of just as miniature adults, thus they were painted as such.

Prince Philip was a Battenburg. The family was known for their good looks. As a young man, Prince Philip was extremely handsome. Even in old age, he was looked very distinguished. In regards to the portrait of Mary Queen of Scots with her son, it is significant to note that Mary lost all contact with her son when James was about 10 months old. The offspring of exceptionally good-looking parents, James I was not attractive.

In your description of James II of Scotland you forgot that the portrait excludes James' "port wine" red birthmark that covered the left half of his face. It is only depicted on a German illustration of "Jacob konig von Scottes". It gave him the nickname "James of the Fiery Face"

She actually was the luckiest of his wives, got a castle, got paid a monthly allowance until she died never had to sleep with him - and anyone else she disliked due to a "diplomatic marriage" and was far enough away from him to not be beheaded.😂

I think is important to mention that Henry VIII’s behaviour started to change after he had an accident where he hit his head and was unconscious for two weeks or so. It is thought that he suffered brain damage and that’s why he became to angry and erratic later in life, I think it might be true. Not an excuse, but given the time he lived in, no one had a way to know he needed help.

There were some errors here regarding monarchs, George ll married Caroline of Anspach, and they had 8 children. So, she was the Queen Caroline and they had 8 children. The future George lV married Caroline of Brunswick and they mutually detested each other and only had 1 children, the Princess Charlotte. Caroline of Brunswick was never crowned Queen, so she doesn't have this title.

The treatment for STDs at the time was mercury and there are records of all of Henry's meds that both his doctors gave him and those that Henry created himself - yeah he made his own meds.
