Our family farm were former tenants of the Otway family in County Tipperary. One of the Otways fought for the British at Vinegar Hill. When I ever see Tipperary play Wexford I think 'We sorted you lot out in 1798 and we'll do it again this afternoon'!

The injustice and oppression was that bad that brave Irishmen armed only with pikes fought for their freedom. God bless those that did, and never let those in power take away your history, culture and identity, which is what is happenung now in Ireland with mass immigration. Where young Irish people are forced abroad, while immigrants, not from the EU, flood the country. It's criminally tragic.

Drill is probably just about the only thing militias were any good at though, seeing as they usually had never fought in a war before. In fact, local militias were often one of the preferred sources of recruits for the regular army, both in time of peace and war, mainly because unlike your average civilian they were already trained in drill and I think in some cases the basics of musketry as well.

As an Athiest Englishman, I found this video fascinating for numerous reasons. One reason being, it happened over 200 years ago and people in the video still seem angry about it. I'm quite angry about world war 2 but I've moved on because it happened years before I was born. The other reason is that I recently established that one of the generals in charge of one of the British brigades is connected to my family through shared ancestry. You can't choose your ancesters. And you've got people commenting saying things like "some day they will pay dearly" - well, I'm afraid to tell you that they have probably all now died. Sorry to rain on your "parade" :) Was the behavior of the Yoemen any worse or better than it was at the Peterloo Massacre in Manchester? I'm from Manchester and I was caught up in a little incident there in June 1996. But I realise that it was 20 years ago and I've moved on.

Conor Beggs Have you's never once read the actual history of 1798 rebellion, it was Presbyterian business men who created United Irishmen in the vision of American revolution, which was also largely conducted by Ulster Presbyterians. There goal, was religious tolerance, proportional representation and most of all free trade. Their goals I might add were largely met with Act of Union in 1800, and resistence soon eroded away.

The Yankees as you call them barely beat them they humiliated them and showed the whole world for what they were scumbag Imperialists they truly are with help from the French and Spanish who despises Britain to this day. The USA from 1776 has humiliated Britain on the field of battle and only one Britain won barely was 1812 and they were more Canadian than British.
@perihelion7798

09stoneheart: It wasn't until the American Army was thoroughly trained in European tactics and formations that the British were defeated. A rag-tag army of volunteers, however dedicated, cannot defeat a highly trained, professional army on the field of battle. I just won't happen. Of course, The Americans were lead by George Washington, a former colonel in the British army. He knew the strategies and tactics of British forces. Even then, It was a close thing. It probably wouldn't have happened when it did without the help of France.

@108205747466770772069 No, I did not say the massacre was the British fault , but the British did awful things in their conquest of Ireland and the world. The colonists get killed by the natives what do you expect when taking their land to kick them off it and discriminated against them and their religion the British brought Irish hatred of them on themselves. British Imperialist sob stories do not work on me. Of course, massacring anyone is awful and it happened to Catholic more often or just as much as did to Protestants.
@TheMATTYB1234

What year was the British conquest of Ireland? I must have missed that in my BA in Irish history! If you agree that a massacre of one side is as bad as another ask yourself this question - how many times have I mentioned these massacres of Protestants? Am I always balanced? Have I been taught about the wrongs perpetrated by Catholics? Why not? Check yourself and see if you are fair minded and balanced, If you are - then good luck to you, because I have met very few who are.
