This Rare Wall Gun, also commonly called a Torador, is a uniquely South Asian Style of large matchlock musket. These rifles were designed to be used as defensive weapons in fortifications, providing range and bore diameter above and beyond the average infantry rifle, while being more maneuverable than artillery, filling the niche between the two. This style of firearm emerged after the introduction of matchlocks to India by the Portuguese in 1498, but would reach its peak popularity during the reign of the Mughal Empire between 1520s-1720s. Modern India is typically resistant to exporting their antiquities, but this example was released from state arsenals and sold legally in the 1970-80s, as evidenced by the Royal Jaigarh Fort Jaipur Export Stamp “JPR/EXR/2/4592” on the barrel. It weighs over 22 Pounds, has a barrel length of 5 feet and 5 inches, and a staggering overall length of 7 feet and 4 inches. The Action is still in complete working order, and is fortunate enough to retain its ramrod. Check it out May 23rd at POGAuctions.com!
