@@thundernargundkar9618a Jake brake, as I understand it, effectively acts to stop air flow in to the cylinder creating vacuum to slow the rig down. Now why he doesn't need the clutch to shift is beyond me

@@Samsquanch6969hes floating gears, the transmission at certain rpm’s is briefly no longer under a load and can freely shift into a different gear with out the need for the clutch.

For all you non truckers... if u watch closely, u can see him working the splitter with him thumb on the left side of the shifter to down shift the gears that are used to split gears between actually shifting the gear shift. I miss my 13 speed Classic! That was the good ole days. Clean ass Pete u got there bro!!!

I remember having to double clutch with my tractor in the military! How foolish of me not to keep my class A. 40 ton, triaxle, 20 ton dump, miss them all. 😢 But that's done damn good smooth shifting there!

My Dad taught me how to plow snow and drive heavy duty pickups when I was 14. Im convinced that has made me a more aware driver, I cant imagine the experience you get from driving these all day much respect

Love that sound! My daddy was an OTR driver and i got to go with him when i was not in school. Gives me goosebumps to hear that sound. Respect these drivers, they have a hard job that takes them from their families to ensure we have everything we need. Beautiful rig!

I’ve always loved the idea of trucking. My grandpa was a car hauler for fine line transportation couple years ago and I would go on the road with him. I can’t tell you how much I loved listening to the turbo whistle and the jake brake that shit is so satisfying 😩hope I can become a trucker soon🙏

This man could make any truck sound good I’m sure but together with this truck make your videos amazing. You have to be one of the most considerate truck drivers out there and you don’t seem to lose your cool when most people would. And lastly I must mention the flawless shifting… I know my way around a 5 or 6 speed but that looks like a crazy amount of fun and your right foot does all the shifting. Absolutely amazing

@joshroddey7320 yeah and then the public wonders why us Truckers hate them. I had a woman driving a school bus decide to just stop and let kids off the bus one day with no advanced warning. She just stopped, opened the doors then threw the reds on. Thankfully I was paying attention going the other way, but she waited until I was almost going by her to stop. I had to stand on the brakes as I was pushing 65K pounds. Then she decided to get mouthy with me. I guess she didn't notice the Trooper that almost rear ended me and he had plenty to say to her. It started with why don't you pull over there.

Drove for about 45 years retired in 2019 best shifting trans was A 18 speed like A hot knife through butter, I do miss the work wish I could go back on the road but not now maybe 1975 and work another 10 years

I was taught to brake with the right foot only. In a (panic situation) some people will smash both feet down , meaning one on the brake pedal and one on the throttle! Bad habits or reflexes, can be dangerous! Now you know! Your welcome!

Nope. You're wrong. That is only a problem in automatics. This is a whole different ball game. Braking with your left foot in an automatic can put you through a store front. Happens all the time, but this is a manual trans. It's different.@@stevehamman4465

I'm a RN and I found your site. I enjoy listening and watching you drive, because my daddy was a trucker. He taught me how to drive and to be a defensive driver. @@AMSOSOFAT currently an 18 speed Pete with a Cummins turned to 550 hp, pull everything from end dumps, belly dumps, flow boys, low boys, and heavy equipment weighing up to 200,000 lbs. I have driven Macs, Freight Liners, Kenworths, Internationals, with every type of transmissions from 9, 10, 13, 15 and 18. Used to run OTR, but run all local these days.

Great skills, my driving days were shortened by sleep apnea (4 days prior to getting my bi-pap machine), and a non-tolerant new young "driver focus" team. My driver manager told me to call him in 6 months & he would recommend my rehire. Frankly, I no longer felt safe on the road, did not want to endanger anyone. But I enjoyed my driving, something I dreamed of most of my life.
