Great channel. One of the best for expats living in NL. You are really rooted in reality and you're presenting facts as they are not through some pink sunglasses. Keep it up, We are waiting for next video :)!

Interesting points and I didn’t know much about The Netherlands until I found your channel! Coming from near Ottawa, Canada, there are -some- times where we simply do need to be safe and cancel plans due to weather. Such cases would be when freezing rain coats everything in ice in the winter, or if temperatures dip to below -30C! The concept of fitting in quietly is interesting - it makes sense that it is the case in The Netherlands. Here there are some cities where that is not the case, such as Montreal, but other cities where it really is also the case, like where I am from in the Ottawa area! Growing up and apart from people I met early on in my life (I am 33) is also something I experienced and agree that it is totally normal! Also love that Turkish saying: “You don’t buy your house but you buy your neighbours!” I would be interested to know how much charity and donation is a part of Dutch life as that is the way in which I am most generous with my money. Here donations can be claimed back on your taxes too! I would be interested in knowing more about Dutch healthcare system as well because I see this as Canada’s greatest current problem; we are struggling to make ends meat with our health system now and I wonder what we can learn from other countries. Thanks for the ideas 😊

Thank you for watching! I'll do my best to make videos about the Dutch healthcare system. I know it can be a bit of a challenging/ confusing topic.

Great Video. I really love you delivering your opinions with great honesty after talking about what the concept is in the Netherlands. I think your perspective is also making elements of Dutch culture applicable to other environments. Consider making videos for audiences outside of the Netherlands. Şimdiden başarılar, kolaylıklar :)

Tesekkur ederim 😊 I’m glad to hear you liked this video. I’m thinking about creating videos for my second channel which will be a bit more about business/ marketing. I still haven’t fully decided what my “added value” would be with that new channel.

Wow, woman, you're a deep thinker. I like that. I sometimes disagree, but that is not important. I would like to point out one thing (without trying to change your mind, by the way). The "Doe Normaal" culture is also there to protect people who might be socially not adept in their surroundings. It gives them a tool to behave acceptibly and thus protects the weak. And yes, it can go against individualism, but in my view that is all ego(centric).

Again, nice video..🙂 I'd like to reflect on your "doe normaal" comment though.. I think you haven't fully understood it.. It's very acceptable to stand out in the Netherlands. People can dress as they like, be creatieve and super expressieve.. There's so much creativety and development going on... Things as Dutch design, a vibrant art sector and a very strong industrial development sector are the result of this. We just don't brag about it..

Thank you for watching and elaborating on the fact that "we just don't brag about it" - I think that makes sense. But if there are things worth bragging about, it should be bragged out! 😀

Very nice video, thank you 😊 The only point I have another opinion on, is that friends from childhood/ youth are the best. Not in my case. I have a couple of good old friends from the university time, but others are from adulthood.

You make good points. I don't like stamps here, they are always for things I don't want or need. The Dutch are penny wise and not so dollar wise. They are also a bit too stingy sometimes, especially the government. They are good to tax us but do whatever they can to not give us social benefits or good health care, plus they want people solving their problems and volunteering even for basic things like cleaning the streets or their own schools and assisting the elderly. It would be ok with low taxes but we pay way too much to have a very crappy return and hell to receive benefits. Everything is an excuse to make our lives difficult, they don't build more cheap houses under the green excuse but it's ok to demolish social units to build middle class homes. There's no free lunch in The Netherlands. I am considering visiting other EU 🇪🇺 countries and possibly leaving, to be honest. Can't even get better health insurance because the network is the same with Tylenol doctors.

I don't know if you had a negative experience because of what you write, but in general I think it is not true. Although under several neo-liberal governments the welfare state has diminished a bit, it certainly hasn't gone away. People who need it, and are entitled to is, always can get help (financially). It can go wrong indeed (toeslagen schandaal!), but in general it works. That is why there are so few homeless people in the Netherlands. Health insurance is mandatory in the Netherlands. It costs € 100 to € 120,- monthly for basic coverage, depending of which insurer you choose. If you are on low income (like my son who is a student), the govt will reimburse 80 to 90% of that amount. We pay reasonably high taxes here indeed, but I wouldn't say we got nothing in return. Infrastructure, public transport, social housing etcetera come to mind. Together with the Scandinavian countries we have high taxes (and a high tax morale!), but we also rank in the top 5 of happiest countries in the world. I agree that there is room for improvement, and I am sorry that something made you feel this.
