@@ThinkingandTinkering Another trick: HITTING TWO WHITE QUARTZ STONES TOGETHER IS NOT ELECTRICAL! Do it in a dark room, and notice that the dim flash is yellow, rather than the blue/violet of plasma. Also notice that, after hitting the stones, the contact-point smells burned. What if it's all frictional? Maybe it's like the "sparks" from grinding wheels, which aren't electrical of course. If the tiny contact-point between quartz pebbles is getting hot enough via friction, it will glow yellow-white for a moment. But in that case, ANY stone should do the same ...but the vast majority are not translucent! Any flash will be concealed, hidden down between the two opaque walls coming together. In order to flash, at least one of the stones must be translucent. (And also, a violent **scrape** might give out much more light, while a perfect **strike** with no sliding motion, might not produce any flash at all. That's if the flash is entirely caused by frictional heating.) So, try it with a white translucent mineral which isn't piezo. Or, perhaps try it with milky glass. Heh, maybe try spinning a tiny object in a dremel, then pushing it hard against some translucent ...marble, or glass, etc. Will a tiny drill-bit or a grinding-wheel produce some light, when it's against a translucent white object?

Thank you Robert. No offense was taken here. I have been watching your videos for a number of months and they are all interesting to me. most of the power where I am at comes from Hydro power. Couple points of interest for me. My dad‘s dad helped build the Columbia river dam with many other men. My mom’s dad was one of the original four that went to Washington DC to petition for a power plant this side of the Missouri river. So we had out here, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon the first power plant, the west side of the Missouri River because of him and three other men. Just interesting history. Since the men in my family have this heritage many of the grand children and children had something electrical in their line of work. It has been a lot of years, but I enjoy inventing different things when I can get my memory tax really work these days. Oh, I’ve rambled on too long. Robert, how do you explain the academic report titled : "Experimental Investigation of Soapstone and Granite Rocks as Energy-Storage Materials for Concentrated Solar Power Generation "? A section from the article: "for crystalline rocks the conductivity decreases with temperature as opposed to the amorphous rocks in which the diffusivity usually increases with temperature. Thermal conductivities at 20 °C were 2.58 W/(m·K) and 2.19 W/(m·K) for soapstone CS and US, respectively, while those of granite CG and UG were 1.69 W/(m·K) and 1.91 W/(m·K). The conductivities for soapstone were higher than those of granite. Most other rocks shown in Table 3 have thermal conductivities approximately similar or slightly higher to that of the experimented rocks with the exceptions of quartzitic and calcareous sandstones that have higher values."

If you have actual Piezzo quartz stone cut as a flat piece, and if you were to properly set it up with contacts on opposite sides it can produce a few thousandths of a Volt for an instant. The pulse width would be dependent on the resonance of the stone, force of the strike, and anything being used to hold it in to position. This would happen when you strike the stone. The current output would be in micro Amps or a few millionths of an Amp. You would need an oscilloscope to see this. Set the time base to about 10 to 15 HZ per cm range. Input sensitivity should be set to about 10 mv/cm. When striking the quart stone you would see the trace jump. With a digital storage scope you can capture the waveform and take a measurement.

During the first part of the video, and also understanding how piezoelectric generation works, I must say I was very wary. But since it was from you, I held on to my reservations til the end. Called it out from the beginning .Numerous quartz produce electricity through the piezo effect via compression or twisting .That's how many BBQ igniters work .If they were iron bearing rocks like hematite and you were to turn up the voltage and connect them by wire you may get the same arc flash they produce .Note that the guy was wearing a glove handling the rock .One wire from the welder is referenced to ground and the other on the rock and put in 36 to 75 volts and about 200 amps and you are welding

Two relatively translucent quartz river rocks will indeed make a nice orange flash if you rub them hard together. (you need to do it in the dark after your eyes are adjusted.) there has been a good debate about if its paezo electric or tribuluminesence. i think its paezo possibly igniting tiny crushed particles. similar rocks were sold in a small felt bag as "magic rocks"
