That’s a beauty. Matter fact I like it so much, that’s why I used the eagle on the reverse for my new line of silver. Congrats buddy

Thank you, my friend!! I know the MS coins are likely out of reach anymore. This seems really special for the grade. I am very happy. I have a new appreciation for this design. The eagle is so cool. I have been meaning to get over to watch your latest silver vids. Knowing you’ve got the Eagle on your new line is extra motivation. Thanks for stopping by 👍

Fantastic coin. I really like the Capped bust design. Great close ups here bud, you can really see the great strike and detail. 1829... before the toggle press. Some guy pulling on a powerful screw press did this work, and a great job he did. This was made in the first U. S. mint building. So cool. Fabulous condition. And the varieties really make if fun to collect. Keep the series going bud. 👍

Thank you, my friend!! Yes these are the early method coins. There are reeded edge coins in later years (1837-39) that came from a steam press. Switched to 90% silver then too. This coin may be the start of a new collection. 😂 Add another thing to my list. Thanks for your great comments 👍

Wow! Smokin' coin, very beautiful! Says that coin is worth $875 today on the PCGS site... Smoking deal either way you shake it. You got an incredible buy my friend. Beautiful coin! I'm hot on the trail of Capped Busts & Seated Liberties! I had no idea about the O's for these. I've got some investigating to do now! Never seen a PQ, similar to CAC? Ah got ya. Great video & good info!

Thanks so much! 😀 Very cool to hear you’re collecting Capped Bust and Seated Liberty coins. There are some extremely tough years in both designs. Good luck with the quest. I just subscribed to your channel and will definitely check out what you’re up to. The PQ sticker is indeed from an upstart rival to CAC. I did attempt to look up my coin on their website and failed. Not sure I’d put too much weight on coins with the PQ. My coin happened to be awesome tho lol Thanks for watching and for your kind words 👊

The Capped Bust series is often overlooked, but they are beautiful coins. When this coin was minted, half dollars were the silver bullion coins in the US as no silver dollars were being minted at that time. No silver dollars were minted between 1804 and 1836 and were not really minted in large quantities until the Morgan dollar started in 1878. So, these were the "Big" silver coins for a long time. 👍

Thank you!! Although this is my first graded example, I plan to get a few more. I’m fascinated by the history. Yes, these were the big coins of the day. I had read that the denomination was equivalent to a day’s pay during the time and were not widely held by the average person. I want to get an earlier example with a notched 13th Star as my next one in this series. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Sweet coin and sweet deal but beware! Those Lettered Edge Capped Bust Halves are seductive! :) Primarily between 2014 and 2018 I worked toward completing a graded set (PCGS, NGC, and a few from ANACS), mostly high end VF and being extremely picky about eye appeal. Now I am missing only the 1819, 1821, 1825, 1829, 1830, 1833, 1836. Purposefully left many of the easier dates for last. Have several of the major varieties, also graded, to include 1823 ugly 3, 1823 broken 3, four major 1820 varieties, 1814/3 and 1817/3. I need to find choice graded examples of remaining dates to complete the date set, but I end up using my hobby funds to buy vintage baseball cards! Most confess I have been tempted to sell my nearly complete set and buy a low end 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card!

Coins and cards, two of my own vices for sure. Your collection of Capped Bust halves sounds incredible. Congrats on your progress. That is quite a challenge. I enjoy collecting a wide variety of coins. I put together a “set” that I called Dead Denominations. It’s a no gold type set with half cent, 2 cent, 3CS, 3CN, half dime, and twenty cent. As for cards, I’m more into hockey than baseball. I have way too many of both. Nothing in the echelon of a Mantle rookie though. Thanks very much for watching and for the great comments 👍

Capped bust halves are a really fun series to collect for sure especially with all the Overton varieties. Many have flat spots from poor strike and your coin is struck up really well. Maybe that’s why they gave it the PQ designation

Well done on the review. I have been wanting a nice capped bust half for some time. You beat me to it! Could you imagine the tediousness required to research all the diagnostics. Just the level of attention to detail is mind blowing! You scored that deal my friend! Good stuff!

I was blown away reading about the details that distinguish each die. It must have been his life’s work to have become such an authority. I love that stuff, but this series will prove to be too rich for my blood to collect it in any serious manner. I’ll nibble around the edges a bit tho 😂 I will get an MS coin before they go higher. I also want something from the first 10 years that has the notched star. I think that’s so cool. Thanks for watching 😀

Thank you 😀 The value of your 1829 and 1831 coins will depend on the condition of the coins. Each date is worth about the same and are relatively common. Value is approximately $60 on the low end and maybe $200 to $500 for better coins that haven’t been cleaned. Thanks for watching

Beautiful coin! But man, I do wish PCGS had more consistency with how they considered "hairlines." I have a beautiful 1895 Puerto Rico peso that has fewer hairlines than that and full luster, and they tagged it with "UNC details, cleaned." Going to break it out soon and send to NGC.

John Reight did indeed put a 13th star with a chip out of that star point. But not this one. He did not engrave dies forever. Try looking at the more early capped bust halfs.

Thanks for watching. It seems you missed the part where I said within the first 10 years. I’m clearly aware this date would not have had the 13th star variety. I don’t usually challenge the comments people leave but it’s obvious that you did not listen to what I said. By the way, the designer’s name is Reich.
