Out of all of that stuff in that house, I think I would have looked through that white box on the shelf at 10:40 that was labeled Loose Photos & books. It might have had clues to the family that lived there. Maybe on a return visit you could look for that box. I would have liked to see what was in there.

In most states, entering into someone's house, even if it appears abandoned, is trespassing or illegal entry. If you remove anything, even a drinking cup, that's considered, at the least, theft of private property. Explorers really should check with a local cop before entering into any abandoned house.

FrankiesFancy really, really these ppl are as grown and intelligent as you are I’m sure, they have been doing this a while and never take things but if they did that’s their business, it’s just stuff, no one is there, has not been in most of these places for YEARS! what’s wrong with that and if a policeman did approach I’m sure they can speak up for themselves .We who are home bound or other reasons enjoy ppl like Rick and Bekah so please don’t be a “downer”

It’s sad that houses like these & so many others just become abandoned & forgotten. There are many reasons why it happens, but I’m willing to bet a lot of it comes down to money. There is a lot of work involved when it comes to getting rid of all the “stuff” in the house, getting the paperwork in order to sell it & being able to afford the legal fees & repairs that come with it. It’s not easy when you have to deal with probate, and it is very expensive. It’s a lot of work and a lot of people probably just don’t want to deal with the huge hassle it comes with, not including the time it takes to get everything finalized. Just going through the trash & junk & everything else is overwhelming. Families feud over these things., etc.. so therefore the house just literally “sits”. People want to profit from it but don’t want to put up the money it takes to fix the mess & get rid of it. People +years+ accumulation of “things”= house full of stuff that somebody else at some point is going to have to deal with, or in this case, not.

There is also the legalities of finding potential heirs. My husband was left a piece of property in Texas when his mother died. She and his stepfather bought it years ago. We can't legally put it on the market because he had 4 stepsisters and we would have to do research to find out if any of them are still alive (they would probably be in their late 60's or early 70's if so) so they could get their share of what the property would bring. We're just probably going let it go to the state because it is in an upscale community and there are upkeep costs, fees to be paid to the homeowners association, state and local taxes. Way too much money for us.

Eventually families die out , especially where there was no marriage or children. I know families lost heirs to all the wars. One spouse dies and the remaining spouse is all alone And often dies 8n the home alone or is too sick to live alone anymore, too ill to sort thru everything. There are many scenarios. Widows especially do not know who to hire to make repairs, often become very distrustful. The most important Repairs should always go to the roof. Secondly, secure all windows . Trees too close to a house need to be removed and all shrubs, foliage kept away from house. People have tendency to 0lant trees and Bushes too close to their homes, Paying no attention to the root system over time , that will damage the foundation of the house ! Moisture from a compromised foundation , causing water to accumulate in a home, starts to rot floors and walls. Letting junk accumulate On floors is bad as well. It invites black mold. A house has to breathe freely and needs sunlight. Piles of boxes prevents everything from thriving correctly .

Love those old staircases! Nothing built now comes close the character and style of these old homes. That was an old wood burning stove at 3:49! Great find and looked like in decent condition. The refrigerator looked like someone had just walked out except for the absence of foods such as meat. The piano was amazing! Such a shame it's just sitting there and will eventually go to ruin. Imagine that old computer was state of the art at the time! Those eight tracks were in a store display. You could reach in and look at it, but a clerk had to unlock the doors for you to purchase. Great explore, great find! I'm glad you stopped in and got it on video before anything happens to this place.

Those two rooms were most likely the servants quarters, so there shouldn't had been that small opening into that room. I hate when an explorer just runs through a place and doesn't look at anything but the trash left behind. Be thorough. @@phil8trk1 Yeah. that person also had an 8-track shrink machine & other related items as well. They do look like gospel 8-tracks from what I could see.

Old man or woman who had no family and lived as a hoarder. Got sick, went to hospital, and passed away. Lots of old folks like that in TN, especially in rural TN, as that area obviously is. Shame really.

The 8 tracks was a display from a store, that's how you bought 8tracks back in the 70s, you put your hand thru the hole and picked up a tape, if you wanted it a clerk would unlock the glass door.

I wish there was more history on these places. You could probably find records of the homeowners and current owners pretty easily online. I'm just so curious as to why people abandon houses in the first place. if you don't want it just go to a homeless shelter and give it to a family just sign the deed over. don't just leave it to decay into such disrepair that it will never be fixable again. This house is such a cool layout there's so much potential in this house. Or there was until they left all this untreated wood to the elements. like why did they leave all this stuff behind inside of it? why hasn't a homeless person just cleaned this house out and taken it over

It would be great of empty houses could be paired up with people needing homes but something to consider is that homeless people also have no money. Someone has to pay for upkeep, utilities, property taxes. A resident would need transportation into town things such as groceries and medical appointments. Too someone responsible would have to be found who would really take care of the house and also not bring in people who would damage it and maybe use it as a place for substance abuse. Then there's the issue of giving a house to a homeless person while someone else is working two or three jobs to keep their own home. I don't want anyone to be without shelter but it can be a complicated situation.

@@andrewbrendan1579 yeah but if they had a house they could have a mailing addressand sign up for government help and get a job. Or start go fund me and get the money that way. I don't know why a charity hasn't been started that accepts abandoned houses and helps families get on their feet by helping them pay taxes for one or two years or whatever. It's still a waste to let these places rot and mold beyond repair while so many of our veterans and others are homeless especially the historic places

So much of the shelving I’m seeing originally came from grocery stores. Not all but quite a few pieces. The metal shelves are pretty generic and indicate along with all the junk that the former resident was a hoarder.
