It's possible a couple of these men were still alive when the Leafs last won the Stanley Cup.

Rail workers from Montreal actually played this game on West Orange’s Crystal Lake in New Jersey 120 years ago on Thursday Feb 24, 1898. Filmed by the Thomas Edison film crew. Edison’s famous lab is just 1 mile down the hill from Crystal Lake.

And standing up. They look like, bad, 5 year olds... This was in 1889 and according to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hockey started in 1875. ... so considering how bad these guys were they either; just started playing fairly recently, were simply bad players or their skates were as shit and hard to stand up on, let alone skate, as they looked.

Nahh y’all wrong. That was us crazies up here in ToeRonToe. We still slip sliding along on with our wheelie chairs, and stick handlin’ like Jigs Philligun. Soon weez be playing in a our power chairs, then ifn there’s room enough t’on the ice, we be sliding in them power beds. You see the deep freeze keeps the age defying dna chain from breakin’. Just ask anyone left.

+Lakebeach _ Honestly, it could be either. At this time, pond hockey would have been pretty indistinguishable from pond bandy, especially with this small a sample of footage. However, you can see the puck slide (not roll like a bandy ball) toward the end. It probably is bounding and tumbling so much in the beginning because its a wooden or soft rubber homemade puck.
