You did a very complete and thorough job Alan, well done you. It just goes to show, boat owners can accomplish most maintenance tasks on their boats and save themselves hundreds, if not thousands of dollars/pounds in the process. In addition, I think there is a certain amount of pride and satisfaction in doing this, one gets to know their boat rather intimately, knowing just where everything lives.
@MyNarrowboatVenture

Hi Michael, I fully agree, working on the boat makes one better acquainted with it and it then feels more homely. I think it's important to undersand, as best one can, how the boat functions. The surveyor advised me to clean the water tank and so I did it. Cheers

Hi Linda, thanks for your comment. Spot on, it is a 2005 Black Country Narrowboat. There was another here in the marina, nearly identical but without the pullman dinette. He had had the shower room professionally modified to fit a standard sized shower tray. It was sold a couple of years ago.

Cracking job...well done..so is that water safe for drinking with that black coating on or is that tank just for washing and the toilet. Not yet a narrow boater so trying to learn 😉
@MyNarrowboatVenture
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon thanks for your comment. The bitumen coating is a special one for use in the water tank. So yes from that aspect it is safe to drink. I though only use it for washing and the toilet. I keep tap water in separate bottles for making tea/coffee though would be happy to drink the water if it had been boiled. You also have to consider how clean is the means used to fill the tank. I was warned when I hired a boat that you don’t know where the hose has been ie has it been dropped in the canal!

Hi Christine. The water comes through clean. I don't drink it, just use it for washing. I use fresh tap water for drinks. I have to dip the tank, there is no gauge on it, but you get to know usage. I tend to refill once a week, when it's about half empty/full. Cheers
