Got a 16” wheel from Charged a while ago, paired with a Prickly Motorsports 35mm lift suspension linkage, and IT CHANGES THE BIKE. Honestly people, if you’re willing to spend the money, this makes a massive difference. You’re able to put so much more power to the ground (even on stock power), you’re more planted to the ground, and the range is basically the same despite having a WAY wider tire. Keep up the good work guys! Love the wheel you built me!

My Dunlop GEOMAX MX53 100/90-19 57m dirt bike tire makes my surron look like a beast. I love it. Also I literally cannot get stuck even in the winter from a stop, uphill, in powder snow higher than the height of my tires. It just sink down to the ground & the front stays on top & it just goes...everytime I do it I am laughing the whole time coz it's so unbelievably crazy that it actually wont get stuck. I find the 18x3.00 Shinko 241 the best overall tire for offroad and street use. Running it at around 12-15 PSI, its really soft and grips everything. Best overall tire. I use the stock front tire because it is lightweight and works well and never wears out. The shinko 18x3.00 tire is also designed for the rear of a bike and its soft and fat. The 18x3.00 is exactly the same diameter as the front tire also so doesn't throw off anything with the suspension.

Washougal II for the rear is a poor choice over the millville II? It looks a bit wider and more aggressive tread. I do need something that can get me to the trails too, so I don't want something crazy soft. Thank you, amazing what you guys have done with the tire research.
@ChargedCycleWorks
2 жыл бұрын
For a rear tire you're looking for a tread pattern that resembles a paddle to scoop and give traction. The Millville has those center knobs that act a bit more like a paddle design than most front tires have (all of these tires are front tires). That's why it functions a bit better in the rear than others. If you don't ride a lot of soft terrain and want a large volume tire maybe look at the MX53, the Dunlops are larger volume than all the other tires, we love running them up front on our 16/19 bikes.

If you are going to stay with 19/19 try the Dunlop MX53 which is an intermediate terrain tire and larger than the OEM tires. Ideally you need to go to a 16" rear wheel for real traction, you just can't get enough traction out of a 70/100-19 tire on the rear. Or if you have power upgrades you can go up to 18/21. chargedcycleworks.com/products/dunlop-mx53-front-tire-70-100x19-for-sur-ron-or-segway-x260?variant=39381808611523

Full transparency we rarely ride on the road, however we have ridden road occasionally on surron and MX bikes. Knobbies are pretty terrible on the road, you just don't have much of a contact patch and the knobs squirm making the traction "loose" feeling. Riding on wet pavement with knobbies can feel like ice! We usually recommend the Shinko 241 or 244 for people who do mixed riding they are two favorites for this. They will be significantly better on the road, but you are sacrificing off-road performance especially in sand and mud and loose stuff. Ideally having a dedicated off-road and on-road wheelset would be best if you can afford it. But if not check out these tires: chargedcycleworks.com/collections/surron-tires/street

I bike up here in Uxbridge Ontario Canada on single and double track mountain bike trails. I have been trying to "build down" my Sur Ron to more of a moutain bike build/feel with better handling and "care for the trails" in mind (as there is only so much power you need on tight twisty technical trails). Any iteas on the optimal wheel size(s) and build for less power needs(stock), more range, lighter more nible"?. After two years and 200+ rides my worn down csts seem better than ever on this type of trail (roots, wet rocks, loamy pine trails, ...). Almost like a "trials bike sticky setup" maybe.
@ChargedCycleWorks
2 жыл бұрын
that's the opposite direction of our upgrades which focus on maximum traction, handling, flat protection, reliability with very minimal weight gain. The OEM surron components are about as light as you can find, the only way to drop weight is to use MTB wheels, but we don't recommend this because they are not made for a bike as heavy as the surron. Our lightest tires like M203 and Mitas weigh more than CST. Honestly the 16/19 setup is the best of both worlds in our opinion, we absolutely love how it handles especially on trails that are like a MTB trail. Also spreading out the weight across a fatter tire like a 90/100-16 has less impact on the trail than a skinny tire like CST that will slide and spin far more than a 90/100-16. If you ever visit a golf course look at the size of tires on their tractors, very wide to minimize pounds per sq-in for minimum impact.

@ChargedCycleWorks
Жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, jealous you are getting yours so soon! The Ultra really needs a 21" up front and we have some options for that coming soon. Unfortunately with 19" the options are not good, just like on Light Bee. All of these tires were made for the front not the rear. The best tires (and largest) would be the 70/100-19 Dunlop MX33 and MX53. While you can install a big beefy 100/90-19 MX tire on the rear, you really don't want to do that without a 21" up front, it's going to make the bike handling really terrible without the 21". If you watch Tuckers ECR review of the Ultra he complains about the front being too low and the front tucking in corners and he (out of desperation) softened his rear shock to lower the rear of the bike. The better solution is the bike needs a 21" up front. Give us a call if you would like to talk to us about a 21" upgrade....we don't have them in stock yet, but we're working at it.
