@@AthensArmory303 it’s so cool. Also according to my grandma when they lived on the mainland that was how he fed the family for a few years while he was starting his repair business

I'm just seeing this today 4/14/24. I bought a 033A Smith & Corona yesterday. This rifle has the same Williams peep sight as yours. I shot it yesterday afternoon after inspection and a cleaning. I paid less because of a " Dark Bore" . The bore was rusty from improper maintenance. It was a Sewer pipe for sure . I used PB Blaster penetration oil and a copper bore brush and some elbow grease. The inside of the barrel is now shiny. I got lucky.

@@AthensArmory303 I've been cleaning and lubricating for 2 days now . The Bore was really bad but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

That's an absolutely awesome looking vintage sporting rifle. I love the peep sight and the figuring in that Walnut stock was definitely from a high-end blank. Drilling tapping for the scope mount won't hurt any since it's already been drilled and tapped for the peep sight. I currently have a nice Target stock for a 1903 and am also looking for a sporterized receiver on which to build a thirty-ought-six target rifle. If I'm not successful in locating an action, I'm gonna modify the stock for a Winchester model 70 action that I already have.

I dont know if you use GB, but they are not as easy to find as they used to be. I have been watching for a while now, and a good complete action seems to be in the 300 range. I remember when they had pallets of new barrels left over from WWII and they were cheap. Now those are getting very expensive.

@@AthensArmory303 if only I could go back about 20 years and take a bunch of money with me! I really noticed a jump though in 2020 with covid. Not only was there high demand for firearms but also a lot of people were sitting home and took advantage of that time to start fixing up their projects.

And from what I saw, around 2015 ish, milsurps really started drying up. not just foreign but also us milsurps. I remember in 2013, I bought 6 Mosin hex receivers from a gun show for $25 each. There were a lot of people just dismantling milsurps for parts, and prices were low. I bought a lot of parts that you cant find today. I wish I would have bought more, but there are still good deals out there

I'm just seeing this today 02/29/24. I recently bought a Sporterized Mauser 98 in 3006. I ordered an EGW mount for a 98 Action. When it arrived I checked things over and the holes didn't align . I looked at the package and it says 98 large ring ( Commercial) . Fortunately I have a Santa Barbara Mauser 98 Commercial action . So I removed the weaver bases from the SB and the fit the other action . The EGW mount fits the SB perfectly. I dodged one there.

It has been a good shooter its whole life, I asked my gunsmith to look it over, he said it looks good. Mike B did a video a while ago about the receiver issues, he bought one that had many cracks visible in the receiver. The problem is a little over blown, but is very real. Thanks for watching!

What is the best way to determine the age of the rifle. I inherited a Rockisland Arsenal Model 1903 that is a sporter model.

Dating a 1903 is very easy. All production records were kept and its easy to nail down the date of manufacture. Click this link for an easy listing www.nps.gov/spar/learn/historyculture/u-s-springfield-model-1903-production.htm
