I had the good fortune to buy a 1928A $2 star almost ten years ago on EBay for about $300. I later submitted it to PMG and it graded out fine 15, which puts the estimated value at least double what I paid. Some of those stars are genuine rarities with the 1928B $2 star being the king with maybe ten notes known to exist.

So it wasn’t clear to me what was special about that $2 note. Was it the signature combination, the fact it’s a star note, serial number, the fact it’s a A block note , or the grade ? I know it’s a 65 epq but that’s not super rare for a 1928 note Anyways thanks as always for the videos!! Tylonn

65 EPQ is the reason and is rare for a star note.

I am happy for the seller.This is a risky business. Sometimes luck or the fact they needed that note was on their side?❤

Yes I agree it wasn't really made very clear the reason for such a high selling price. I came here to ask the same thing.

This is a cool topic for today. Tonight at the Knox county numismatic association I'm buying a 1928 red seal note for my daughter. What a coincidence. Thanks for sharing Daniel. We always appreciate your videos an effort into making a new one daily. Thanks sir

Not only can you see the signature rust from the iron. But that rusty iron will also eat at the paper it's on. That's another thing to spot to make sure it's the right ink
@ECP

On U.S. currency, the series refers to the year appearing on the front of a bill, indicating when the bill's design was adopted. The printed series year does not indicate the year a bill was printed; instead it indicates the earliest year that bills of the same design were first made. For example, Series of 1882 gold certificates were being printed as late as 1927.

I am guessing...it depends on ( we are talking serial number for a second here)? There are special sets out there that have intentional serial numbers out there?I am only learning. THANK YOU ❤

I have always been a coin guy, but I would like to get into some paper money, but don't have a huge budget to work with. I think I read once that collecting star notes is a good way to get into paper money because they are always popular with collectors, and you can still get them (not all of course) for reasonable prices. Any comments would be appreciated, or if anyone has suggestions on other notes to collect for the average guy's budget. Thanks!

I found a few 1976 $2 bills from my grandparents' collection. I don't _really_ care what they're worth, but it's always neat to know if you have something worth more than face value. I basically never see $2 bills and I love their aesthetic, especially the reverse. I'm noting there are a lot of coins and paper currency where I go "huh, I love it" and begin a loose collection... 😅

Thanks Dan. One of your more informative videos. Now I am going to have to buy the book on US Currency by Friedman. Living here in the EU there are many opportunities not easily available to the collector in the US. The book will come in handy. Keep up the great work.

Daniel i was told about the little number on the back of the $2 Bill's on the bottom right hand side. I was told that it was the plate number of which the bill(s) were made with that could also add value. Is this true? I ask bc you did not mention anything about it Edit to say: I could be mistaken of the placement of the "plate numbers". Its possibly the number and or letters in the picture on the back of the $2 bills

It's about the size of the numbers, if they're different than it's a mule. Most mules are worth less, but some are not. I wasn't trying to be detailed and why everyone should be buying the book I mentioned to learn about them more. Thanks
