The year before, Papa Bear had managed to get the title game moved indoors to Chicago Stadium, citing anticipated bad weather at Wrigley Field (it didn't happen). The Bears, under head coach Ralph Jones (George Halas had retired in 1930, but returned in 1933), beat the Portsmouth Spartans 9-0 in playing conditions (e.g., a 60-yard-long playing field) which resembled present-day arena football.

The Bears also had Red Grange, who carried six times for twenty-four yards. Nagurski and Grange in the same backfield, in the same game.

So many HOF's from 1 game. Thanks to all of them for changing pro football forever. RIP

Bronko got 64 rushing yards on 13 carries in that game. He also went 2 for 2 in the air for another 42 yards, and two touchdowns. (In those days, the quarterback wasn't the exclusive passer.)

Nagurski ran the ball, threw the ball, and played tackle and defensive lineman. In the 1980s, he said at the present time he'd probably be a linebacker.

That was the year before, indoors at Chicago Stadium. Chicago beat Portsmouth 9-0. The field was 60 yards long. The 1933 title game was at Wrigley Field, under normal playing conditions.

The Bears had Nagurski, the NFL's most dominant running back. The next year, the Giants turned the tables on Halas' crew at the Polo Grounds in the legendary "sneaker game".

Funny how green bay was 10-3-1 and it still wasn’t good enough to be in the championship game

George Preston Marshall had lobbied the other owners on the idea of dividing the league into two divisions and having a championship game played between the top team with the best record from each division to decide a champion.

Marshall, the owner of the Redskins, also got the goalposts (then "H"-shaped) moved up to the goal line, making field goals easier.

Still the format today, after the NFL merged with the old American Football League and divided into two conferences.

Finally, Marshall got the rules changed to allow a passer to throw the ball from anywhere behind the line of scrimmage, bringing football into the modern era. Unfortunately, he held out against racial integration.

Looking at the standings (0:07), Green Bay has the BEST record. The man in the video matter-of-factly declares Portsmouth & the Bears as having the best record, but not so. The winning percentage shown is NOT reflective of the 4 ties & 6 ties that Portsmouth & the Bears had respectively. Ties should always be worth 1/2 a win AND 1/2 a loss. That makes Portsmouth's record the equivalent of 8 wins & 3 losses while the Bears end up 9 & 4. When a conference leader ties a bottom-feeder, the tie should count against the leader & benefit the underdog. You should NOT pretend like the game was not played.

The tie game rules you speak of were not implemented until 1972. So if those standings were to occur 1972 or later you would be correct, but not with the rules in place at that time.

You're looking at something from the past with rules from the present. Green Bay might have had more wins but not a better winning pct.
