Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition c. 1933-1938, was a cooperative, depression-era, multi-institutional undertaking that provided foundational scientific, social, and environmental studies of the land and peoples within a three thousand square mile area of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.
This film takes place in the lands of the Pueblo, Navaho and Hopi Native Americans. Subjects of interest are weaving of a rug or blanket, archaeologists examine the remains of some of the ancient burials. cradle boarding a baby, Acoma, the oldest continually inhabited village in America, Paqua Naha also known as "Frog Woman", was a Hopi-Tewa potter.
A short clip of John Wetherill at Kayenta, AZ, who provided provisions, pack animals and equipment. The Wetherill property was also used as a staging area, hosting guests of the Expedition, and using their connections with the local Navajo and San Juan Paiute community to recruit packers, guides, and translators.
