My God this was real luxury in that era! We bought a camper this year and it was my grandson's first opportunity to go camping! My parents spent their first few years traveling the country with an Airstream trailer in the 1950a! Traveling is just in our blood!

That's when you want more than a motel room on wheels. You want the conference room, too. And it is fascinating, the clear connection between designs of boats/yachts and recreational motor vehicles. And there's an early Judy Garland movie which shows off the luxe camping scene of the late '30s. Worth a VHS watch for that. I can't recall the title but it was the one she made before Wizard of Oz, I think.

3:00 the small pin that connects the trailer has held up for more than 250,000 miles but it sure seems small!

Yes it did, it has 250,000 miles, I think the mount design was and still is very sturdy, and yes the quality of the cast metal I think was above quality.

Basically, this is a private business jet or luxury yacht on wheels. What really caught my attention was the mention of private sleeping quarters in the cab for the driver. Like a private plane or yacht, this vehicle was meant to be operated by professionals. The owner, his family, and entourage were purely passengers. There are diecasts available for the Vagabond, but no model kits that I could find with a quick Google Search. 49th Like.

You make a good point that this vehicle with a trailer, this one is like a luxury yacht. Yes, there was a sleeper for the driver, but studying the information, it was written that there were no sleepers in the trailer or were added after the restoration. To me it looks like a mobile business office from those years.

A few days ago I was at the Louwman museum, who have a Curtiss Aerocar similar to this one (although it has a raised 'cockpit' at the front), towed by a Graham Blue Streak Coupe.

With the Trailer permanently mounted to the tow vehicle it seems like that would make it tough to perform basic maintenance. Awesome piece of Automotive/ Camping history.

I suppose the engine is in the „trunk“ of that towing vehicle, so without the trailer this will be quite an unstable drive… Just imagine that you arrive in any campground of the world with this combo today - you are the uncrowned king instantly.

Just watched this and am pretty sure one of these were featured in an old movie I watched in TCM. And if I’m not mistaken: it was either Cary Grant or Gary Cooper who stared in it. But I can’t remember the name of that movie, but am sure it was aired on TCM.

Need to show more of the interior of both parts. State there are 8 seats - are they in the trailer only? Is it still legal to have people in there while moving. How many seats does the tractor unit seat?
@martinpenwald9475

It depends of states, and there can be restrictions. For example, in most cases, there has to be a 2-way communication device between the people in the trailer and the driver.

I wish you wouldn't use AI to generate your story and do the voice over. What is otherwise an excellent series, that focusses on unusual and unique vehicles is let down by the banal and repetitive from video to video script and disjointed voice-over. I'm sure, with the information that you feed AI you could create something just as interesting. Even more so, if you did the voice-over yourself.
