I love it, I don't know how long it took you to learn these things, but all I can say is God Bless You Tube, because I have learned about things my Mom did not know. I baked homemade rolls for Thanksgiving...and they were great, my Mom did not know how to bake, now I am starting to learn how to sew and crochet. So, you influencers are amazing 🤩

It came out really nice. I love the fact that you dont have to restyle the wig every time you wear it. Now i see why women used to wear hair nets lol makes for an easier way to hold a style!

Thank you for going into such great detail as to why it’s so important to use the smallest rollers on the bottom. I see people using them on the top far too often. They assume short hair needs smaller rollers. This isn’t true. You worked this style beautifully!

You did a fantastic job! I love the idea of a half wig. I wear vintage hair styles and the days where my wet set has failed or I’m in need of a wash and haven’t been able to, this is a fantastic option! I will be trying it out!

You should just do this to a lace front wig, a truly a protective hairstyle, not a worry about leave out cooperating or the resulting damage. If you can slay this little half wig to the gods I hate to see what you could do to a lace front. Oh and really keep and eye out for the mommy wig. Yes that’s the name I forgot what brand Outre maybe anywho I’m sure the styling options on that piece would give you endless possibilities tailored to black vintage hairstyles.

An elderly lady used the term "baking" in the curls.... that comment stuck with me. I do a wash and set with old fashioned rollers! every week and it works well!.... the rollers have what looks like bottle brushes running through the middle!, for gripping the hair on🏁😃

Were wigs popular among Black women in the 40s? I remember my grandma wore a wig later in life, but I’ve always wondered. You could definitely put this and the 1950s video in a special resources playlist.

I can’t say how popular or not popular it was but I can say it was common in general. I guess with everything it depends on the income of the household since there was a lot of rationing in the 40’s because of war I bet a lot of people went without. Not to mention women became factory workers while men were off to war so maybe not so much? Scarves and turbans became popular in the 40’s

This is fantastic! I found your channel a couple months ago, and I've been making myself space your older videos out so I don't watch them all and have none left! I've really admired the style of your hair in all of those past videos, both the wig and your natural hair tied up in all the different pretty bows and scarves--so darned cute! It's great to see the technique behind it! Editing to add: I also think the style here is so classic that it fits outfits from the 1940s straight through the 1960s.

for anything more sculptural iin the front i would advise to go for flat pin curls : i'm currently experimenting with all of the curling methods i own and know of and, beyond the fact that flat pincurls where the most common in the mid-century, i've noticed that it set my hair in the right shape, locks into place and stays styled longer than rollers (roller tend to have the longerlasting curl in the ends and reat volume at the top but it gives a more casual look, pincurls have a stronger curl at the root so the hair moves in the right position basically)

I’m sure some people did, but considering assimilation was necessary to work and survive In the United States it was probably few and far between. But I know lots of talented women do inspired styles with their natural hair. I’ve done so in the past too when I had more time on my hands. Pre styled wigs have been quicker for me.

For the most part no. Serena has it right that finding a way to comply with white hair standards was.more beneficial to finding employment, etc. It's very recent that traditional black hair styles have come to be accepted at work and school in the US. Black natural hair definitely got a boost toward mainstream acceptance in the mid 60s to early 70s with the counter culture revolution and back to nature movement.

No it’s synthetic you can totally do it with your real hair or a real hair wig but I wanted a style that is easy that doesn’t need to be restyled over and over. It takes me less than 10min to do my hair now and I’m out the door. My rollers are from Walmart but you can get them anywhere.
