Hi @delsiegmund1432 Nice video! Did you use any tool to re-assemble the propeller shaft to the third member? Mine was a real pain to get off and now I am installing it back again. Cheers Wictor

How did you peen that pin in the driveshaft so it would stay in place. Much appreciated.

Pins to be peeened over need to be slightly longer on each end than the hole the go through. They are peened in place on the shaft, one end of the pin supported on something hard like metal or concrete under the pin on one side so it can't move. Round the unsupported end of the pin with hammer blows from a ballpeen hammer down onto the shaft. Rotate the shaft or flip it. Support the (now rounded end) on something hard and repeat the process on the other end. The pin will now be rounded on both ends tight to the shaft.

Those torque tubes were the worst part of otherwise wonderful cars! I’ll never understand why they hung on to them for as many years. A BEAR to work on and no,matter what you do, they will always leak!

I have one more question. Do you recall the part number from the pinion seal that goes behind the dented in nut thanks Del.

202850754391 on ebay was a correct fitting pinion nut that came with the wrong seal sold by parts n oil. Separate order from OldBuickParts (AKA CARS LLC) was for the buick front pinion seal.

How did you torque your pinion nut up as I don’t know of a socket that deep to ho over the shaft ?

I really could not do a true torque measurement on the nut other than estimation of what 150 pounds of pressure would be. I think you can take comfort that since the nut and threads are huge, you can use a lot of force, and also I believe I remember being surprised at how (relatively easily) the original nut came off. I was prepared for a huge battle but instead it came off readily. It was nearly loose? but was still kept in place by the "dent" in the nut. That is probably far more important I believe - to make sure you (significantly) dent the nut down so it cannot spin off. I imagine after thousands of miles of heating, cooling and being on a spinning shaft that over time the nut will "naturally" go a bit loose no matter how hard you torque it and will eventually rely on that dent you put on the nut to keep things secure.

If you were really sold on using a torque wrench you could cut the top off a socket, and then weld the top and bottom pieces to a long piece of pipe, effectively making an extra deep socket

Hello del. Great videos on the 50 roadmaster. I have a 50 super sedan with the same leak issue and have used your videos as a great guide on my car. Where did you find the cork gasket that goes outside the outer pinion oil seal. Much appreciated.

I made one cork gasket out of plain sheet of cork gasket material. Auto stores have plain sheet material or you can buy multi packs with different types of gasket material sheets combined in one package online.
