Great job Chris . I like that you do out of the box. You do an amazing job without exotic tools and aftermarket kits. Gives me hope I can still build a kit. . I built the 49 hardtop when it came out in the old days. ( 1962 ? ) It was one of AMTs best kits. oh , you might like this. I was building my 37 Ford sedan and despite being very careful , I lost a shock that broke off the tree. After carefully looking for it , I decided it wouldn't be too hard to scratch build.. Then I remembered your advice to check the box flaps.!.. and there it was.! I had to laugh. you made my day twice. Thanks for your wonderful channel .

Beautiful car and a beautiful build. I built one of these back in the 1980s. It was on sale for $2.99! Can you remember when $5.00 bought a model, a tube of glue (that smelled like oranges) and a jar of silver paint??? I miss those days!

This has become a routine for me to just sit back relax and watch you build a cool kit with lots of options on a Saturday afternoon or evening. During the detailing part I'll 😴 if I'm not careful (the music is so relaxing) but that's ok, I just back up the video and watch it again 😄.

Hpi guy, I can give you a lot of great tips from my experiences from the past and still use in the present. Paint all your engine parts separately and the suspension also. Paint the exhaust first if it's an installed part and not a mold in exhaust. I'm going back to an airbrush soon. I wore out my old Passhe and compressor. I can spray can like a pro but an air brush gives you a better job, more control of the environment, and you can mix your own colors. I can't wait to try the TAMIYA bottled paints in the air brush. Good luck and keep building. I have a large collection of my built kits from 47 to 59 years back. Over 500 kits. Take care.

Preston Tucker, in 1947, couldn't sell cars - the "Big 3" would not let him in the "club". Tucker went to Congress and lobbied for his "Third Eye" center headlight to be mandatory on all cars. Ford's lobbyist overheard the discussion and that's why the '49 - '50 and some '51 Fords have that Third Eye front grill. The Tucker killer grill - 2 years to implement, two and a half to eliminate. Amazing color choices on this. Another beauty from box-O-bits to stunning model, right before our eyes. Thanks.

Chris I just tried your clearcoay method for the first time. I've always used testers gloss clear spray but it's getting very expensive when you can find it. I picked up some quick shine floor finish at lowes. I can say it does not like to be airbrushed. I thi k it's too thin. But your brush on and leave it method is money! Thanks for all you do my friend. Love your channel.

The style and design of those cars are an acquired taste and being born after that era it took me a while to learn to appreciate them. However, I started looking at sports cars like the Corvette, Thunderbird, or even the Jaguar XKSS, and it hit me that air-stream rounded body design was pretty amazing. I like all the chrome, too. The Chevrolet SSR LS is kind of a throwback to the old 50s look, and that is a nice-looking truck. This car is a nice-looking car in real life though most of the restorations use brighter metallic colors. If you go to the local driving-in restaurant and have an old car night, you'll probably see this one there. Thank you for making this one. Nice build.

glad to see this un back noticed apparently the glass for the original chopped 51 Victoria style roof is included but not the roof part itself that would have been nice also there was a full chopped "Carson" style top in the original issue. over the years have built a half ton of these and the 49 kits and have about another half ton to build. funny story I decided I wanted a dual system on one of my 50 kits so instead of just adding a second to the kit frame I decided to cut the cross brace out and graft it onto the 49 chassis. well it worked pretty well but the 49 mufflers would not fit in the cross brace so I had to use some tubing and make some "glass pack mufflers. so much for that next time I will just add another side to the kit frame. keep up the good work will look for the next build

Toothpaste makes a great rubbing - polishing compound. It eliminates the wet sanding. It's a lot less expensive. Furniture polish from the Dollar General shines the paint after a rub down to a maximum shine. Sand all the sharp edges of the body lightly to break the edge so the paint takes a build up and doesn't rub through. Future clear is a good product to use on certain parts. Great to make interiors have that vinyl sheen.

I have done that with the old AMT 39 - 40 Ford sedan fastback kits decades ago. I have a 1939 sedan and a 1939 coupe. I have a 1940 sedan and a 40 coupe. I have a 1939 sedan delivery and a 1940 sedan delivery. These kits can be interchanged with the conversion parts. It's a nice series to do. Now next the convertibles if I can find the 39- 40 kits for the parts. I think Revell has a 1940 convertible kit. The old Testors 48 Ford convertible has the parts to interchange from 46, 47 and 48. Those parts will convert to the Revell 1948 Ford coupe also to do a series. I got back into it in since I retired.

Hey Chris... (nice duct tape bandage btW) hehe Well I was wondering, and I admit it has nothing to do with this particular video, if you could recommend a model manufacturer that might be willing to design a model of the steam shovels that dug the Panama canal. Personally I'd love to see that part of history preserved because I love the machines that made it happen. Building a model of one of those would be extremely cool, don't you think?

Ooh my, this kit has some really hott old custom parts, that means i could make these parts fit on amts 49 mercury too! Old original custom parts, from back then name brands, t,v,s record players, reel to reel tape decks, consoles, hot then, but i think they're UGLY, always did, custom bucket seats, tools, extra grilles, cinder blocks, glass look steering wheels, ramps, rotator beacon emergency lights, ALL KINDS of cool old tools parts and "stylizing" parts, what makes a,m,t, kits what they are, so if you collect all this stuff, and buy or have the get on up weekend wrench and i forgot the name of the third kit in that series, you can take a couple of bench seats out of your junkyard for your friends to sit on and build yourself a cool garage diorama, Long story short, gotta get a FEW of these, have some KITBASH ideas
