The MAC still races in classic racing with great success. They are lighter than the later spring frame and sprightly. For many the MAC is the favourite , smooth, sporting and reliable. Top at 70 mph, will tour all day and enjoyable. Like many collections the vehicles are never started or ridden. They have never experienced a windy back road through the hills. These were not precious jewels but made for the working man who could go touring on the weekend or some clubman events . The frame on the next chassis, the spring frame (RS) was shared with the 500 and 350 power plants. Developed from a late '30's race frame gave it an edge on other makes. Even today still marvellous handling and parts still available. 'Always in the picture' was the motto.

My father was mates with Sid Willis. He completely redesigned his MAC Velocette to the point where it had a swing arm rear end and hydraulic front end and a full fairing. In the 1950's

Velocette aren't all Black and Gold. They came in many colours eg I have a factory red Venom, tan and cream Vogue, silver Thruxton,blue and silver LE plus they made lots of other colours eg greens ,( Dove Green) , Ivory etc

TT as in the races stands for Tourist Trophy. Also, my father who began his motorcycling career in the 1950s always says M.A.C. not Mack.

Velocette invented the foot shifter! I have a very customized Mac racer that is street legal.

I can't see how a presentation like this has any relevance to 'Ride of The Week' ? Both presenters speak a load of waffle without any real knowledge, just generalities, and when it comes to assessing how this bike behaves on the road neither of them can do more than guess ! Time to do some research before going in front of the camera. What a waste of time.

Velocette voluntarily shut down in Feb 1971. They are wonderful motorcycles, not only did they win in British Road racing, they won all over the World and were the first 350cc World Champions. A 500cc Velocette off the Production line still holds a World Record as the only 500cc Motorcycle to average over a 100 miles per hour for 24 hours continuously. They do not vibrate and a million times smoother than British Parallel twins of the era. Velocette invented the foot gearchange in the 1920’s and were the first to use a Dual Seat in 1937.
