Here are a few clips from the rebuild of Geoff's 1952 AJS Model 18S that he bought on the local craigslist.
It takes a brave and committed person to embark on a basket case project like this!
This bike has an interesting background. The gentleman who Geoff purchased the bike from had owned it for 30+ years. He swapped it for a Volkswagen bug/beetle and allegedly the bike had been owned by a friend of Evel Knievel!! That claim would start to make more sense as Geoff inspected the motorcycle and found many parts broken or damaged, consistent with jumping. Both axles were bent. The damper rods inside the front forks were bent and the damper rods in the rear suspension units .The bottom yolk / triple tree had been broken and welded. Even the brake shoes were broken and welded together again. We often joke that the bike should have come with an altimeter instead of a speedo as it spent more time in the air than on the ground! It takes a special kind of person to embark on a basket case project like this
