Wow what a trea! as a long time giant fan I never realized the 52 Giants were that good, they beat the eventual Division champion Cleveland Browns twice but because of devastating injuries that came up short by a singinal game, at one point in the season they had to use defensive back Tom Landry at quarterback, so thrilling to watch Frank Gifford my all time favorite player pick off Otto Graham's pass and return it for 55 yards to help the Giants beat the Browns and score an amazing 37 points in their second thrashing of the Browns, that was the most any team scored against the Browns in that era

Landry never expressed an interest in coaching the Giants . He disliked New York and wanted to return to Texas .

In the late 1950's the Giants had Landry and Vince Lombardi as assistant coaches. Landry ran the defense, Lombardi the offense and the head coach, Jim Lee Howell stayed out of the way. Either of them would have jumped at the chance to be head coach.
