The Ruston Hornsby 8HRF starting and running at the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club, Scoresby, Victoria, Australia.
This engine was built in 1952 (serial number 332617) and is rated 210 horsepower @ 300 rpm.
It was directly coupled to a Stothert & Pitt "Guinard" variable displacement rotary piston pump which could pump 300 tonnes of bunker fuel oil per hour. It was installed at the Commonwealth Oil Refineries Ltd. (COR) Port Melbourne site (later known as BP Australia). This site, adjacent to Princes Pier, was established in 1920 to supply bunker oil to ships at Princes and Station Piers. The engine was donated to the club by BP Australia in 1987 where the site was later demolished. The engine then sat for the next 20 years until it was restored, installed and ran for the first time at the club in 2007.
