Today Lawman Guitars is Presenting…
An incredible find… A beautiful 1954 Harmony H44 Stratotone Guitar with the original soft shell Case.
This guitar is in incredible shape and is all original except for the replaced pots.
These cool guitars were only made from 1953 thru 1958. In 1959 they went to a new body style. The only way to date these is thru the pot dates. Since the pots were replaced, we have no way to date this one. Given the case with it, we are calling it an early one. We have not seen this case before. So its just a guess at 1954. Its one of these years between 1953 and 1958.
Check out the cool ad we found.
This cool guitar sports the great looking Copper Finish. The copper ones turn green over time. The finish will react with the oils from our hands and arms. You can see this one has turned green on the back of the neck where the hand was for most of the playing..in the cowboy chord area and in typical wear areas. When the finish is gone thru, you get the gray primer coat and then finally the wood body. This one shows all colors. Copper, Green, Gray and natural..LOL...… Happy to see how beautiful the copper still is on this one…Another area that is always missing is the input jack plate. Even the original input jack plate is still with this one..see pic 10…
This guitar was played professionally for many years. We spent a lot of time cleaning all of the bar time off the body and fretboard. It was quite the mess. Under that was a really cool guitar. It has numerous dings and scratches. And, as mentioned, many areas of finish worn off and bare wood exposed. That only indicates the love and hours spent with this cool guitar. The frets are still in good shape. If you are going to play it Professionally, you will probably have to have some frets done...however, if you are going to play it at home like most of us, the frets will last your time with the guitar.
All original, except the pots, to include the awesome sounding DeArmond Hersey Bar Single coil pickup, original Wavery tuners, Harmony Cup Cake knobs, Pickguard, Tailpiece, end pin and even the Tuner Grommets. The previous owner added the strap button on the back. We decided to leave that on..
These guitar have awesome baseball bat rounded necks that are big, but feel incredible in the hand. I have small hands but love playing this guitar. The nut measures 1 3/4 inches and is also original. Neck is nice and straight..the action measures 1/16 inch at the first fret then only 1/8 inch at the 12th fret.
The Pickup sounds incredible. Very dark and bluesy…. Slide players love these but these guitars handle all styles. Richie Valens played on just like it when he was still around in the 1950’s!
Don’t forget the awesome original Soft Shell Case. You never find these with the guitar. All latches, hinges and original handle are still with it as well as the accessory box..only the accessory box lid is missing... We glued a few places but its in really good shape for its age. Just as nice as the guitar. What a great guitar combo to have!
Sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used…however, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and they have all loved the guitars I found them. This incredibly Harmony H44 will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool guitar.
