Great video! Best and least complicated explanation I have come across. Going to have part of my dash apart on my 56 Nomad this week. I'll have to make sure I get the speedo out as well and get it lubed up. Thanx for the great info.

After messing around trying to free up the freeze plug with eyeglass screwdrivers, I used needle nose pliers to grip inside the plug and against the outside of the housing and the plug came right out. Also, I used Dust Off instead of running my compressor to blow air. I had some old Singer sewing machine oil so I used it. Marvel Mystery oil might work well, too.

I recently installed a backup switch, harness and lenses on my 55. I had trouble finding the proper screws to mount the switch to the column. (Manual 3 speed). I used short self tapping screws instead and they worked fine. Do you know where to find the proper screws to mount the switch on the column? Thank you I really enjoy your videos. They have helped me greatly.

Thanks for the speedo info. I have a tic tic noise coming from my 62 vette tach. Any suggestions?

I don't have any experience with mechanical tachs. Probably needs lubed. If the inner cable comes out of the sheath, I'd wipe it off and put on new grease. Be a good idea to lube it soon so nothing snaps or breaks. I'd sure love to have a 62 Corvette.

So I followed your instructions on cleaning and lubing the speedometer. Put it back in the 56 and now the speedometer needle is jumping from 0-30 mph. Any ideas?

If it was spinning very smooth after cleaning it then lubricating it, I'd check the teeth on the trans gears. If the spring in the speedo assembly was stretched it could cause this as well

@@haffrods7055 found the problem. There was a hard bend in the cable. Which I believe caused a spring like resistance causing the needle to jump. 👍🏼

Same thing happens to old Japanese motorcycle speedometers.
