What an ingenious design. When I get some money I'm buying one of these, and I'll ship it to India so I can start it up and drive it around the country side just so people can see such an ingenious tractor. In India they have all these old, one cylinder, direct injection slow and medium speed diesel these use when the power goes out and for everything.

I don't know how I just now saw this in 2020. I have one just like it. 70 standard with the pony engine, even the same year. s/n 7022800. Came from North Dakota originally. It's now in central NC. Has only a little over 800 original hours on it, and it shows. I really want to get it put back together (my brother took it apart to restore it - wish I hadn't let him - never finished it, and now it needs a lot of work to get it back together). Hourmeter/tach still works, and sheet metal is perfect other than one tiny little ding in the grille, the size of a fingertip. Found on an abandoned farm years ago. Thanks for the great video. So nice to hear it run again!

Love it! When I was a kid, my grandpa had a 70 diesel. I have always loved that sound. When he would start it, we always begged him to leave the coffee on the exhaust and blow it off! He would every now and then just to humor us. I would love to get a hold of a restored 70 some day. Thanks for sharing the start up!

The 730 started the same way. I've started both many times. I spent most of my summers during my teen years on a 70, 730, and 4020. No cab. No air conditioning, and the only shade being a cloud that may wander over, or the shadow of a B52 that may come buzzing over on a low level training run.

That brought back memories. I had that exact tractor right down to the single lever start. I don't think I've ever seen another single lever system - most of them had two levers but that's exactly the way mine was set up.
@thegreenerthemeaner
4 жыл бұрын
All 70 Diesels had one lever for the Pony engagement and compression release. Beginning with the 720s, all pony start Deere 2 cylinders had 2 levers, one to control the decompression, the other engaging the Pony motor. The R thru 840s always had 2 levers. Electric start tractors had one lever for compression release. 2 things to remember, never advance the throttle until you are on compression. When you shut it down, pull the lever to decompress and save your crank and flywheel.

My Dad had a JD70 but it had a narrow front end, which I like the looks of better even though they are more prone to tipping over. It was the first tractor I remember driving when I was about 7 years old in 1965, but Dad only let me drive it when I was sitting between his legs on the seat. I've always wanted to drive one again.

I had a very early row crop 70 Diesel. Mine had wide front, long axles, dished rear wheels, 800A 3 point and LPTO. The power steering just needs a shim or 2 removed from under the worm gear and recenter the valve to stop that shimmy of the steering wheel. Mine you pushed the compression release lever forward to start the pony. Nice standard tractor
