The Belvedere, Plymouth's top-trim level in '55 and equivalent to Ford's Fairlane and Chevy's BelAir. They had better upholstery, trim and frills. Plymouth's mid-level car was the Savoy, akin to Ford's Customline and Chevy's Two-Ten, all had nice trimm but practical. Plymouth's entry level was the Plaza, a no frills choice like the Ford Mainline or the Chevy One-Fifty. These bare-bones cars had no horn ring, rubber floor mats and dog-dish hub caps. The fleet buyer's (sales, taxis, etc) choice.

The silent generation born between 1928 and 1945 were the last Americans who believed in the bigger is better American sedan. Now the full-size pickup and SUV rather than sedans are status symbols to some younger Americans.

1:48 She's supposed to be feeling the "new and luxurious upholstery fabric" but she's wearing gloves! Regardless, I do like that blue décor. I had a dark green Belvedere, Hy-Fire V-8 with standard transmission. Its "new and luxurious upholstery fabric" was green with Plymouth ship emblems. I sure loved that thing... Alas, it finally gave up the ghost when it threw a rod.

The side trim on the early '55 Belvederes, like this one,was straight and looked good. Later in the year, they added on a clumsy looking side arrow shaped trim on two tone cars. Too bad Plymouth is no longer with us.

I agree, but crumple zones that absorb the impact, rather than having the occupants absorb it, are a good idea. It's too bad we can't have both.

Ok, so I went back and watched the video to maybe see it in a different light. The car is still fugly. I would have liked it better if it were a 2-door. If you want to see some real Detroit iron, Check out the 1957 Plymouth Station Wagon commercial. The chick is hot and perky. Check her out in her skirt and heels!
