My family had a 1955 that was turquoise and white and before my Dad quit driving it it had almost turned over to 300,00 miles on the odometer and smoked only when you started it up. The Pontiac can’t be beat!

What's really amazing is that car still has its original license plates on it. That license plate was issued in 1956. It was the first year for that design. So original all the way down to its license plate is incredible.

The year was 1967. My very first car was a 1956 Pontiac Chieftain 870 Catalina 2 door hardtop. It had the optional (larger) available for that year, Stratostreak 316.6 CID 227 HP (not 205 HP, to correct the announcer) V-8, 4 barrel carburetor engine and the super-smooth running, Stratoflite 375 Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission. I got it for $1.00 from my friend David Foster who's uncle had died.. I drove it home from across (a small) town, without a driver's license, license plates, or insurance. The world was a lot more simple/different then! Today I would have been arrested! Unfortunately, my mother made me get rid of it when she came home from work, before my father got home! Too bad, although it had a flat spot on the camshaft lobe which caused a slight hesitation at about 40 MPH, it was a sound car with no damage, and an excellent buy! Years later, when I asked her why she would not let me keep it, she said, "when it comes to car (and any DIY) repairs, your father was not you"!

My father had one of these circa 1964. Instead of salmon/coral and white it was green and white. I remember it being a reliable car, until it got rear-ended. Sadly, it became a throw-away car.

Nice car! Always wondered why the 1955-57 Pontiacs are not viewed as collectable like the 1955-57 Chevys. With Pontiac you got a V-8 and a four speed Hydramatic, for not a whole lot more than a Chevy.

Strange thing I noticed. It still has the brake peddle going through the floor. Chevy had gone to the swing down brake peddle in 1955.

One of the finest examples in the country. The car sold very quickly and could have been sold 6 times over at that asking. Made me think it was too low! I get what you are saying however. 15-20 years ago this would be a completely different story. I'm glad the 'more doors' are getting the recognition they deserve.

Everything about the car is great except those lame straight exhaust pipes coming out the back. If you’re going to restore a car, restore it the right way including the way the pipes come out the back.
