A brief history of this car: It belonged to the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department (NY) during the early 2000s, where it underwent a comprehensive body-off restoration. It was then sold to raise funds for the Department, circa 2004, to the hands of its previous caretaker who enjoyed it for about six years before being acquired by its current custodian in 2010. Since then, this vehicle has been thoughtfully cherished on fair weather days, taken on occasional road trips, and showcased at numerous car shows, earning compliments both during the events and on the drive home.
We begin to describe this early Corvette by pointing out what it is NOT. It is not a trailer queen or a museum piece; instead, it is a remarkable “show, then drive” example. And drive it certainly does. The accompanying photos spotlight paint imperfections like scratches, small paint cracks and blisters, along with some carpet discoloration. Additionally, the driver’s window needs assistance, but it remains securely in place wherever you leave it.
This is also a rock-solid example that fires up instantly, cold or hot, with plenty of power and a smooth 4-speed manual transmission which allow it to effortlessly keep pace with modern city or highway traffic. Over almost 14 years and 12,000 miles, it has proven super reliable and loyal to its current owner. Furthermore, this is a 100% rust-free example, as evidenced in the undercarriage photos.
Additionally, it has been meticulously prepared before being offered for sale as follows:
- New battery,
- Brake fluid flush,
- Coolant fluid flush,
- Fresh motor oil/filter,
- New air filter.
Beyond its cosmetic imperfections, this Corvette exudes beauty with just the right amount of patina, and it gathers compliments wherever it goes. Chrome surfaces are virtually flawless, and the soft top looks new, with a crystal-clear plastic window.
Having driven many special machines in the course of doing business, I can attest to the unparalleled attention and affection this Fuelie receives, more so than driving a late-model Ferrari, Mercedes-AMG or Porsche around town. Gas stations, stop signs, red and green lights become conversation spots behind the wheel of this C1, with new C8 drivers frequently pulling up to chat, some going as far as exclaiming, “Hey man! Is that a ’57 Fuelie?”
At Autobahn Vault, we are uncompromising in our commitment to quality, refusing to prioritize profit over excellence. Consequently, the vehicles we offer consistently stand out among the best examples on the market. This 1957 Corvette Fuelie is no exception.
Prepare to be captivated.
