My dad traded in a 56 Plymouth on a brand new 57 Plymouth Savoy 2dr V-8 push button auto trans. It was baby blue over white. He was 20 years old at the time and it was a full 6 years before I was born. I saw it in pictures he had of this car growing up and I always loved that car... My dad, who fell in love with it at first site, became less "Smitten" as the months went by. He told me it was all the rave in 57 and very powerful but, It leaked so much water through every crack and window seal that he had to take out the carpet. Remove the body plugs and "red lead" the floor because it was already rusting out! It rattled and creaked so much from the suspension that even the AM radio couldn't drown it out. He traded it in in 1959 on a 1960 Nash Metro convertible. He got $225.00 on the trade in! With all its short comings... I would still by one in a second! Rest In Peace Dad!

I'm 70 yrs. old and I can honestly say that if Chrysler brought that car back today I'd be the first dude to buy one. Sharp car, even today!!! Virgil Exner designed some beautiful cars during the 50's & 60's!

As a kid those Mopar starters had a unique distinct sound when cranking. Chrysler products didn't start as easily when cold either. I remember Chevy's always started up quicker and easier back in the 50's and 60's My Dad's Plymouth station wagon was totally rusted out through and through by the time it was 8 years old.

I love the solid simplicity of these cars. They came from a time when the world was more straight forward and you could fix your own car without expensive computer and emission systems that are guaranteed to make you empty your wallet faster than shit through a goose.

It is hard today to belive how really NEW and DIFFERENT the 1957 Plymouth was unless it is seen with a 1957 Chevrolet and a 1957 Ford. It took Chevey untill 1959 to match it and it took Ford untill 1960! (Too late as by '60 compacts were stealing the show.) When the '57 Plymouth ads said "Suddenly it's 1960!", They wern't far off!! And I am a GM guy admitting that!

The cars of the fifties had catchy names for what was then "high tech." These suspension components and transmissions were simple compared to today's computer controlled suspensions and multi-speed, CVT etc transmissions. But consider what cars were like in the post war forties. This 57 Plymouth was amazing. Plymouth regardless of their style never touch Ford or Chevy in sales.

Great looking car....but a lot of reliability issues....doesn’t compare to a Fairlane 500 or a Chev of the same vintage.

I remember when I was a kid I used to pump gas at Big John's Shell Station..I was so impressed with (rich) folks who would fill up their tanks @ 24 cents a gallon...most people would get a dollar or two worth of gas..times sure have changed..

Always amazed that gas mileage was a factor when you could fill up for about $20.00 or so. At least until the “energy crisis” of the 70’s when it jumped to a dollar or so a gallon. Wish it were that much per gallon now!!

Considering how superior the Plymouth's styling was, I never understood why the '57 Chevy later became the cliched archetypal '50s collectible car in the 1970s and later. Of course I realize that considerably more Chevrolets were manufactured than Plymouths...and despite the claim in this commercial, the space-age look did not remain stylish for years to come. It looked weird and outdated by the early '60s.

Remember, also, that the '57 Plymouths, like all Chrysler products of the period, were equal parts rattle trap and rust bucket. Very poor quality control.

The 1957 Plymouth - Great styling? 64% said yes back in '57- Great handling? Yes,at least when compared to most other 1957cars. Great brakes? Definitely not. Great build quality and rust resistance? Definitely not! That is just one of several reasons why these cars are rarely seen today. When it comes to safety, people need to realize that that was a very different time from today. It was not until the 1967 model year that great progress toward safer cars was finally being made. Also,a reminder to those who are nostalgic for the old VW microbuses - They were considerably more dangerous than most other cars of their time.Just something to keep in mind if you are considering buying one.

Yes, probably no seat belts, no shock absorbing steering column, possibly a padded dash, no air bags, and no frontal crumple zone to absorb a front-end collision. Today's cars are much safer. I feel much more secure driving in my 2021 Toyota RAV4 than my 1953 Hudson Super Wasp which does have added seat belts.
