Hi, there, and good luck restoring your hearse. I'm looking foreward to seeing how it turns out when you finish it.

I spotted a 1950's Oldsmobile hearse in a classic car show in the city of Menominee Michigan located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I asked the owner if he wanted to sell it? He took my info. 4 years later he called me, but I got outbid on the final sale price. But I'm still looking. I attended the first annual Hearse show in Pontiac Michigan. A guy pulls in with a 1970's Cadillac with a fully blown 454 engine with a double blower fuel injection system. Playing full blast on the hearse stereo was Michael Jackson's Thriller song. How cool that slow ride was looking and sounding.

I already swapped a 500 Cadillac into one of these 58-61 commercial chassis hearses. You'll have to notch and box in the front of the crossmember to clear the oil filter on the 500's.

Ok cool thanks for the tip!!! Did you have to cut the driveshaft to make the th400 trans fit? Or just mount the engine at the right distance?

@@HalloweenHunters @Halloween Hunters Well the trans fit perfectly in there, all I had to do was merely flip the trans crossmember over which raised it the needed 2 inches to bolt to the trans mount, the front engine mounts for the engine I used a 2 piece mount, the bottom mount consisted of a 1970 dodge pickup 383 offset rubber mount, which I bolted to a custom set of upper mounts I made so the engine can be slid back or forth about 2.5 inches using this engine mount set up and the dodge lower mount fits into the factory Caddy engine mount holes on the frame perfectly almost like it was meant to be. Once i had the engine and trans locked in, the driveshaft I had to have lengthened a tiny bit on the front shaft, i had the TH400 slip yoke installed, I used a long shaft TH400 from one of my old limo's and swapped the long tail shaft housing for a short shaft style from a GTO TH400, everything fit like factory. I have the specs written down on the driveshaft in my folder. Driveline shop charged me $150 to correct it and install new U joints

Yea I like 58's best too...kinda baroque. I have a Fleetwood, so biased. I don't know much about the commercial chassis...all the rest have rear coils not leafs.

Good luck with that I'm a big fan of the 57 and 58 Cadillac , I have a 69 Coupe Deville, but I'd rather have a 57 or 58, most folks do not even know that they actually had three Eldorado models in those years.
