Coming back to this video one year later. I'm surprised this is starting to get views again! If you can, please subscribe as people are watching but not subscribing! Any other info about the car, I'm starting the restoration process to get this car back up to 100% with new stuff placed into it as it won't be original by any means! The 352 Interceptor Special engines are extremely hard to come by so it's going to be replaced with a 428 Police Interceptor with a 4 speed top loader or that's the plan so far! Stay safe everyone!

I sold my car in 1989,didn’t see it for many years,then found it setting out in a field.Then it was gone again,but found it next to another guys house,and it was looking sad.Then a guy I knew at the time,now I am friends with,bought her,and fixed the body damage that had happened since I owned her,and he changed the color to a burgundy,did the interior in gray,and added some really nice old school wheels.He had her for 10 years,and I think it was last year that he sold her to someone in Alaska.Sidenote.The same engine that I had rebuilt in 1983 was still running strong ,and still smoking out one side just like it was after I had it rebuilt.

Cool find! I have a 58 500 that's been my daily driver for 20+ years. Just about done re-doing it , I change it about every 5 yrs. Another way to tell the difference between a 300 and a 500 is the 300 is shorter in body length. Can't wait to see yours when it's done!

Appreciate the watch! Reminds me of a story that my late father told me about my late grandfather. He owned a Stanley Steamer. Not sure on what year it was. He owned it around the late 50's to early 60's. Every time when my father turned around my grandfather was working on it constantly. He finally got tired of the thing altogether one day and just hauled it off to the scrapyard. Heck, my father even traded some 40's something Ford Woody for a butcher hog back in the 60's for food to have during the winter. The things people once had!

I'm actually gearing up to do a series on 2 of these 58 Ford's. A Fairlane Club Sedan & a 300. Amazing how good those tail light bezels are. They are ultra thin chrome and all of mine show it. Also the 300's are 10" shorter WB, that's why I'm going to use that one for a "Gasser" style build (it's the parts care for the Fairlane). The tire lean up front is common when there's no motor tranny in them. Put some weight up there and they stand up. As for the loose steering, usually you can adjust that out by that top adjuster nut on the box. If not, you can buy all the tie rod, ball joints, etc etc etc still. What I found though....... I haven't done it yet, but it's coming in a vid on my channel, there is an easy inexpensive "caster fix" & front wheel disc brake conversion without a lot of modding. Big tip though...... be very careful with that front sway bar. You can buy new bushings for it, but the bar itself doesn't exist. I'm actually looking for a good one due to a friend helping me load it on the trailer. IT'S NOT WHERE YOU HOOK THE WENCH!
@TheDirtCatBrothers

The tire lean I'm aware of but the front is in need of new bushings, bearings, the whole nine yards as they are messed up for both tires lightly face outwards. Need to upgrade it anyhow so I'm not worried on how things are. Thinking about upgrading some stuff with 70's Lincoln parts but unsure on what will fit just yet until I measure everything. I'm hoping to look into a better system as I've learned that just this year on how rare they're becoming for the tie rods. Thinking on combing a few brands together in order to get the job done but only after I get the frame off. Been too gosh darn busy with other things lately.

@@TheDirtCatBrothers I happened onto a 72 Ranchero, and I gotta tell ya....... it looks like a pretty easy swap spindle wise. Worse case scenario, convert the ball joints to fit the 58 control arms. I'd use the whole thing, but its way too wide for the 58's. As for a frame marry, or chassis swap, it's odd how small these cars actually are. They look Huge, until you actually put your hands on them and start chasin' them with a tape. Parts wise, I've found a lot through Mac's Auto, and even Rockauto. Prices are actually within reason all things considered.

4dr-hardtops are SUPER-Rare, --generally fewer made from the "get-go" than convertibles. This is a 2-dr. If mine, I'd shorten the wheelbase 18" or more, severely squeezing the rear-seat room & removing the rear seat, BUT, I'd move the dog-house [--side rear-glass ] towards the rear, to where it'd be somewhat of a 2-passenger "T-bird-like", "fast-back-like"" car. Maybe that way, I could sell the intact trunk-lid, "3-D-ing" the back-half so the rear passenger-glass can make-up a semi-fast-back style. I just LOVE the Mercs that have 3 lights across each side of the rear{--KEWL, 'cuz you can wire them to blink-sequentially, like on Cougars & T-birds}. I feel Ford Should've had a white/clear back-up light, in line and Between the two regular red tail-lights. It LOOKS like there's even 'room', to do it, but Ford didn't. With the rear seating-space gone, I'd get a bench for the front, so your lady could sit comfortably next to you and handle the tunes, & giving you a 3-passenger car, rather than 6. Mebbe that'd get in the way of hangin your arm out the door with that fin-shape into the rear of the door. I always MISSED the single-front seat coupes, which all the Majors quit making shortly after WW-II. That 352, if an "FE", could be B'd & Strk'd to over 427cu"[--600HP?], and maybe you'll put an injection-sys., but have it LOOK like carbs with that long, ovoid air-cleaner that covered multiple carbs, --3-2s or 2-4s in the early-mid-'60s. I'd get a 5-spd--Tremec, --makes for more FUN, plus much harder for a kid to steal & "Joy" with. I think only a REAL MAN drives a 'stick', plus a Manual keeps All of ya "Moving" a little better, than these automatics of t'day that'll shift yer gears , --feed ya eggs n grits, & then file yer taxes! I have a '57 Ford Custom 2dr sedan. It has a de-stroked Ford 427 FE engine and 4 speed top-loader transmission. I built the car in 1970 and I still have it. I set three NHRA records with it. Look at my profile photo. Custom sedan was shorter than the Fairlane 500. BTW, my '57 Custom 2dr sedan is rust-free and 90% original paint. It had 36k miles when I got it. It was a 292 engine with 3 speed and overdrive transmission. The engine had thrown a rod through the side of the block. Initial build was with a 390 engine until I built the de-stroked 427 engine that has 560+ hp.

Sounds like it’s one hell of a car! Wish mine still had the original 352 but it is to what it is. I’m going to slap a 428 police interceptor down in mine though the 4 speed top loader will be difficult to find. Here in my area it’s 50/50 on older cars for rust though they heavily salt the roads during the winter so have to thoroughly wash in the spring.
@sergeantmasson3669

@@TheDirtCatBrothers If you do go with a 428 FE engine and a top-loader 4 speed transmission, make sure that you get the larger input shaft for the transmission. Early on, my car would twist/break the normal size input shafts. Ford did produce a thicker input shaft and once I went with that, no more input shaft breakage. My '57 Ford Custom 2dr sedan used to lift the front wheels a bit when launched it and still does. I used to break u-joints and twist driveshafts too until I I built a larger diameter drive shaft and bigger u-joints which meant using a larger differential flange and a larger yoke for the transmission. I also had to change the rear to 31 spline axles. 3 years ago, I did a re-fresh job on the car and today, it runs in the high 9's and low 10's rather easily. I do race it once in a great while but it is street legal, even now, and it's fun making late model "muscle cars" look foolish.

The speedometer went to 130. It was numbered 10 to 120, it had two marks left of 10 for 0 and 5, then two marks beyond 120 for 125 and 130. A true Interceptor Special had a 300 hp 352 with a solid lifter camshaft. Ford had a two speed automatic that was actually a three speed.
