We had one of these beautiful Sleds when I was a kid. A sedan, and possibly not even a Crown Imperial. We drove it to Florida in ‘63. Spent a month with our cousins, and since we stuck around there a bit too long, dad drove that beast back to Seattle from the Orlando area in 2-1/2 days. No kidding! No A/C, no cruise, just 413 cubes and torsion air ride to coddle us safely home. Damn!! Those WERE the days, my friend!!

With that uniquely formal roofline, there was no mistaking the Imperial for other Chrysler forward-look cars--I'm sure that was on Virgil Exner's mind when he designed it

Imperial was a separate make from Chrysler. A car like that rates full credit. It was definitely the pride of the American side. Hats off to WP Chrysler!

"The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald": "Pride of the American side"! But yes, each of the big three car manufacturers had five divisions back then! Chrysler, Ford and General Motors!

Car looks great all original, paint looks authentic. So many cars are restored with non original paints using modern paint technology and it destroys the 50's look of the car. Modern paints are too shiny because the technology is different. You have to use the older technology to get the period correct look like this car has

Here we go again with the "Chrysler Inperial" lie. Don't these guys ever read Automotive History ??

The "Chrysler" name is NOWHERE on this car. There is a reason for that. IT IS NOT A CHRYSLER. Imperial was SPUN OFF into it's OWN MAKE and DIVISION in 1955 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_(automobile)

williamg2552 And Imperial was built in its own separate plant in order to ensure the high level of quality the engineers demanded of their premium car.

Exactly, Cornell ! The Imperial's slogan "America's Most Carefully Built Car" wasn't just media hype...it was the honest TRUTH. By 1964, IMPERIAL was touted as "The QUIETEST car in the WORLD" and that was true. It also OUT-HANDLED, OUT-ACCELERATED , and OUT-CORNERED Cadillac and Lincoln. It had the STRONGEST FRAME . THE IMPERIAL WAS , By Far, America's Finest Car back then. It was an INSULT to call this car simply a "Chrysler". That's like calling the Top-of -the-line Lexus LS460 a "Toyota".

Except for one very important detail that is constantly left out by some anal retentive individuals who shall remain nameless. Chrysler, very much unlike Cadillac, Lincoln, and perhaps Packard never sold Imperials in stand alone dealerships. When you walked into a Cadillac showroom, you never saw a lowly Chevy Bel Air along side a Sedan De Ville. Whereas a Southampton was sold right along a price leading (read, cheap) Chrysler Windsor. Its all about marketing fellas. The potential Imperial buyer was still in a Chrysler-Imperial dealership, the name "Chrysler" was never removed from their minds. It didn''t help that Chrysler sold the Imperial as a Chrysler Imperial for DECADES prior to 1955.

I am aware of this. This is why hardly anyone except some anal retentive people on this forum still feel the need to "correct" anyone who writes Chrysler Imperial.

@@williamg2552 there's a gentleman on KZitem who was featured along with his 1960 Imperial Southampton. He joked that of course Imperials were the most carefully built car...because they had the time...no one was buying them. Compared to Cadillac's sales numbers he was correct... although it was a jest...somewhat wrye...but still a jest. His Imperial was awesome.

Its not a Chrysler Imperial. Its just Imperial. Chrysler separated Imperial from the Chrysler lineup in 1950 to better compete with Cadillac and Lincoln. To call that car a Chrysler is like calling a Cadillac a Chevy Cadillac or a Lincoln a Ford Lincoln. Its just Imperial. Also I have seen 2 Imperial cars up close in person in my lifetime. 1956 Imperial Crown and a 1959 Imperial Crown South Hampton. Nowhere on that car was the word Chrysler inscripted. It just said Imperial. Stop calling it a Chrysler.
