Ok… let’s see… you’re an electromechanical engineer with extremely technical restoration skills and a photographic memory. You are highly skilled in many disciplines allowing you to seemingly restore at will. I don’t think anyone can top you!!! Absolutely incredible performance!! Well done sir!!! The Old Army Scout…

But he didn't actually show any equipment working when finished. The radio certainly wouldn't have worked because I could see several components, which needed to be replaced, and he didn't touch them. But kudos for his mechanical skills.

I so far haven't seen an old-timer spinet organ that comes with a built-in tape cassette player getting revamped. My grandma Russell "Hazel" Shelton used to keep one of these contraptions. This tape cassette player has no eject button.

You should never put oil on the shutter blades. Shutter blades needs to be bone dry. Otherwise they will stick and will not work properly.

You did a great job on the radio but please reinstate the gold strip on the radio case it would look so much better with the original gold than with the white stripe. The white stripe is to striking on the eyes, you can see it a mile away.

Sorry that stripeing effect stuff that you scraped out of the radio case looked like it was gold coloured to me. Maybe it was white and turned like a gold colour from dirt or nicotine staining from a previous owner who smoked a lot. Nevertheless I would paint over the white infill with some gold paint to tone down the glaring white infill. 😁❤️

Not that I actually care..... but that's not a 1959 model Philips radio (possibly a 49, but not 59). Three give aways are first the 'bottle neck' tubes, were phasing out by the early to mid 40's. Secondly, though 6 volt tubes were still being used through the late 50's / early 60's they were being phased out for the12 volt small envelope tubes by the late 50's. Thirdly, the BIGGEST and most BLARING ISSUE is "'Bakelite" plastic was discontinued by the late 40's. As a restorer I'd grade the finish (cabinet) a "B-". Though it looks shinny, and the chip repair appears complete, no photos of that repair or coloring was shown. (Why?) Furthermore, that white trim stripe, and the dial indicator would have never been used in the original release, and that same dial indicator would have used a "luminous" Radium or Promethium type paint (it would have been better to have left it alone). Concerning the electronics: "F" and Laughable. Not but one capacitor was replaced (and that looked like an amateur attempt); no other caps, resistors, no cleaning of tuning cap, chassis or wire replacement? How did he deal with the 120 line voltage issue? Apparently, he never did.

Tear out all the tubes, capacitors and wiring, build a chassis and put in a Bluetooth module. The old wiring and components will fail and possibly cause a fire. Not to mention the likelihood of there being asbestos in there. I have done a few of these and typically the wiring is shot and the insulation crumbling. The outer case looks great!

There's a really old console radio at a local antique store. There's a sign on it that says "No, we haven't tested it, we're not crazy!" I keep threatening to just pop a bluetooth speaker in it and not touch the electrics.
@willjackson1955

@@andreacook7431 Old tube radios are perfectly repairable. There's pretty much nothing that can cause a fire once you replace 4 or 5 components and the power cord, if everything's in order. I have a couple dozen radios that I've restored and repaired myself, bought them as scrap. Nothing was wrong with them but a couple of easily replaced components. One such radios sits on my bedside table and I listen to it every evening for a couple of ours. It hasn't given a single trouble but a dial light burning out, as it was the original one from the 1950s. Please, don't scrap the electronics inside, take it to someone who can at least make it work again safely! Bluetooth and other gizmos can be added without destroying the value of the radio and/or the electronics inside and I've done so for a radio I've gifted to a friend of mine. Now it can receive music from his phone, apart from normale AM/FM radio and even play records! This we've seen may well be a good cosmetic restoration, but alas, on the electrical side of things is very dangerous! He hasn't checked anything out apart from one capacitor. I do not believe in the slightest that the radio could light up after the "restoration" process, but for how long? An hour, before the transformer cooks due to leaking grid coupling caps? It's a matter of minutes to change those, if you know how...
