I like that era of cars...all of them with the fins. My father had a 1960 2 door Chev Biscayne which I wish I kept and restored. I've owned a lot of cars over the decades from Cadillac (2), Porsche(2), Ferrari(11), Saab(1), Alfa Romeo(2), Maserati, Corvettes, SVT products, all types of Fords, GM's, Chevs including new '07 Z06, Dodges, Rolls Royce and a lot of other makes not listed here. If I had to do it over again, I would have gone in the car business just because I've enjoyed vehicles since the time my father put me on his lap at the age of 4 to steer the '60 Chev Biscayne. Beautiful Eldorado I used to own a 1979 Eldorado Biarritz that was light blue. I don't remember if it was the aqua firemist or blue firemist. You have amazing cars. ps. As much as Elvis loved his Cadillacs, oddly enough when he was discharged from the army in 1960, his first car purchase was a white 1960 Continental Mark V convertible with red interior! He never owned a 1959 model Cadillac due to still being in Germany on active duty. He did own a 1960 Cadillac Limo that RCA bought for him and had customized as a gift, and which is on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Poor old girl probably didn’t have gaps between the door window and roof until you got it and started slamming the doors smh 🤦🏻♂️ the only problem I have with classic dealers, is not all of the employees have a true passion for these cars and do little things like that that drive me crazy. That’s what causes rattling to occur and well, gaps between the windows and roof from the air pressure it causes. Look how much that roof moves when he slams them.
@joe6096
Жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? The "gaps" in those windows are probably 100x better now even if he slammed the door a hundred times than they were before the car was restored. Trust me, in 1960, the assembly precision of these cars was not what you can get with the proper parts adjusted and fitted properly in a proper laser aligned rotisserie restoration. In a 1960 assembly line, even for Cadillac, they were just happy the door closed without sagging.
@dman19581969
Жыл бұрын
@@joe6096 To each their own, there’s a reason why there aren’t many left out there and it’s from lack of care. Don’t get me wrong I take care of my cars but they aren’t garage queens. I drive and enjoy them quite a bit, take them out to car shows and what not but, you only get one warning after you slam my doors the first time, after that, your ride along privileges have been revoked lol. I never said anything about the “assembly precision” I have a few mopars as well as other classics and they only go out on nice days because if not the trunk will rot out as most did because those trunk seals weren’t the best even when new in the 60’s and 70’s so I’m aware of how they were built, even in the 50’s, but it’s irrelevant. old doors are heavy enough that they’ll close with ease, don’t have to slam em but that’s my opinion after all.
@joe6096
Жыл бұрын
@@dman19581969 Way to completely miss the point. Heavy or not heavy, it doesn't matter - the precision of which these cars were built to in the 1950s and 60s is nowhere near what you can get with modern restoration processes. I don't care if you slam or don't slam the door - this car has better fit and finish today than it did when it rolled off the assembly line. That's the point.
@dman19581969

@@joe6096 I didn’t miss your point, that’s why I said “to each their own” I feel today’s materials are cheep and built to be replaced within 5 to 10 years!! I’ve seen original 1959/1960 Cadillac’s with their original tops and they seal beautifully!! One thing about Lincoln and Cadillac back in these days, convertible or not, they knew how to seal a car very nicely!!
