I remember the old kart days. Late 50's, early 60's. My dad had a Moss w/ McCulloughs. Would love to be able to go back. Fun times

My dad and his brothers had a track at their farm before I was born. Dad had 2 8s and a 10 on his cart. They had some great times. I put a 10 McCullough on a mini bike direct drive. Id push it and hop on to start it. Fun as heck. Dad had 2 13 horse Power products we'd mess with. Great memories.

Had a Rupp with a single 580 as a kid, dogged the heck out of it and it ran great til the day we sold it! Great little motor, use to add liquid ether to the fuel.

McCulloch and West Bend engines were the racers choice back in the day. Most of the karts had direct drive though, no clutch. Also, back then there was no understanding about tuned exhaust pipes to increase horsepower.

You may want to check those set screws on the rear axle. It has a little slack side to side , might throw a chain on a corner.
@KrustyKlown

LOL.. I saw that too. Set screws don't work well.. much better to run a stepped key under the axle bearing, and out to the end of the stepped axle. Then the keys hold the axle in position. that's how I run all my vintage racing karts from little McCullochs up too dual modified 135cc B-Bombs.

@@KrustyKlown Yeah, we noticed that awhile back, and have since switched over to the stepped key set up. Good eye.

My dad won the east coast karting championships and the presidential cup in ‘61 I think. I wasn’t born 😂 he ran Rupps with twin engine west bends or power products. They were direct drive no clutches and had individual axels. He races go karts from 59-63 I think. Jim Murphy was his name. He went in to be a national champ in SCCA and a Trans Am driver. All six kids races go kart 😂 and some grand kids too. Pretty soon some great grandchildren may 😂

I have a Rupp corvette go cart I have owned since the late 70’s. Mine was blue. I am thinking about selling it. But would love to know what year it was made. The tag and serial number is on it. It’s in pristine condition. No cracks anywhere

How are the two motors synced?

Can you tell me about running one engine backwards, I'm assuming these engines have points not a solid-state coil, Also I noticed the recoil/blower cover on the right engine it tilted a little compared to the left, Are these different model engines?
@billymanilli

The pull start covers on those particular models are cast so they can have the rope enter and coil around the pulley in either clockwise or counter-clockwise configuration. If you goog some of these west bend motors, you can see some more "clear" pics. As for the ignition system type, I'm not real sure what they use, but I'm sure there's either enough leeway to set the timing advance in the "other direction", or one that's set up for CW or CCW rotation, and you just put in whichever one you need. edit: also, I just noticed on their channel, is another vintage kart w/ a pair of 610s on it and you can see the covers a bit more clearly. Hope it helps!

YOUR AXLE is shifting left and right in the frame!! Rather dangerous, a large shift on the track and you will go over on your head. Always run your axle keys from the frame bearing out to the end of the step on your axle ... skip using set screw things to hold your axle in place (those never hold and bugger up your axle).
