Reminds me of my Norton Navigator restoration. A bike can be like a box of candy...

Off to a good start, Mike. That’s an interesting seal on the primary cover and only one nut holds it on. Also interesting that the foot pegs are mounted through the engine. This is an education in British engineering and design. Thanks for these great videos.

Would look nice in blue 👍 Not in bad condition so far but you never can tell, hope the previous owners were kind and left it mostly untouched. Good luck, Mike, can’t wait for the next instalment.

Seems the Manxman landed on the right place. Perhaps there is blue paint under the roadholder decals if you are lucky.

Hi Mike, once again a very interesting video looking forward to seeing more of this project. I assume then that you are going to restore the bike to its original colour?
@TheMightyGarage

Hi, yes I'm going to try and get it back to the very original look... including the high-rise handlebars!! I may keep a spare pair of flat bars for whenever I need to take it out in public ;)

Hi again. Sorry but I can't seem to find your other comment about the front TLS (Twin Leading Shoe) brake on the early Commandos. I hear that they are quite good, especially if you buy the brace / stiffener. Plus, they look brilliant! Here's a link to Andover Norton's website for the stiffener plate. Cheers, Mike andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-details/16081

Mi Ty Ok thanks Mike, I’m thinking about getting a Commando and quite like the look of the fastback model which most seem to have the front drum brake fitted and l just wondered how well it worked. Thanks for the information.

Previous owner did a hack job, what with the glue and bondo on those side covers. Good thing you have it now. Where is the world do you find these gems anyway?

Very interesting and well made videos, followed your swingarm trip yesterday and found this today all because my recent cold :) Do you do it yourself, or somebody helps you with camera work ? Best wishes from the BSA / Triumph spectrum of britbiking.

What sort of Morlock was that previous owner? Thank Heaven it's now in your hands. But you can lose those handlebars; a nice flat bar will set off the beautiful lines of the rest of the bike.
@TheMightyGarage

Hehe, I'm sorry to say but I might need to get even bigger handlebars!! They came with these massive cow-horn bars that were original.. but I think I will keep a nice set of flat bars handy for when I have to ride it in public ;)

@@TheMightyGarage I understand only too well how long it can take to do an accurate restoration like you are striving for with your Manxman. It looked like you were in the process of getting exhaust pipes and and mufflers reproduced for it. Were you ever able to get them made?
