10:50 I guess it's a good idea to have a small AM transmitter project as an addon for such radios. In europe AM is not popular, so it's either going for a FM radio or building/getting an AM transmitter. You can have quite a lot of fun building one from those cheap junk tubes (~0.5-1USD each or so), especially if you already have some coils available. Relay an internet station or your own playlist and it's good to go.

i've done a similar IF bodge in a Hacker RP10 radio, the first IF transformer was physically damaged by a previous ham fisted owner/engineer😉, the original was a double section type, two cores, side by side, but nothing to lose i wired in a common far eastern single core type, orange coloured core, meant for first IF use, and amazingly after a bit of tweaking to match the IF frequency of the remaining others (465khz, i think it was), i'd say it worked as good ,or nearly as good as, new! and i didnt replace any caps 😉 they were ok. this was over 20 years ago, it still works but sounds distorted,(havent powered it up for nearly those years) so maybe now in need of cap testing again 😁 if so, i'll redo the bodge as it was done rather roughly at the time, i'll make a little pcb for it to adapt its pin layout instead of 1 inch long wires it has now

Hmm not so sure about that. According to the schematic shango had on his phone at 22:33 there is a capacitor in that IF can too. And whatever ate away at the wires surely would have eaten away at that cap too. So you would have to at least get rid of it in favor of an external cap. And yes, the chinese schematic is incorrect as their IF can has an internal cap too. That is why shango need not add one externally.

If the voltage was to be 4 Volts, perhaps the original battery was a small 2 cell lead-acid battery. The color of the corrosion appears blue-green indicating the presence of copper sulfate. The lithium cell is a good option, as its voltage on full charge is about 4.2 Volts, with a rating of 3.7 Volts, still operating the radio. I wonder if an electrolytic capacitor replacement would put more life in its sensitivity....?
@ertyuiiknbvcx

Perhaps light pressure sand blasting or perhaps better glass blasting the pcb backside will remove the top layer corrotion quickly, and then reflow it with new solder with a soldering iron? One can use copper wire too if the trace is not that long and solder it from a to b, if too long to be stiff enough then insulated wire works good. One could likely use thin copper wire and a drill a small hole on each side of it and fix it with thin bare copper wire to the pcb. Kind of brain surgery but it should work, old pcb's are not that complicated, i have soldered copper wires on much smaller electronics tracks than these. Try fixing a broken USB WiFi stick with a loupe and you get the idea here :) I like reading glasses +4.00 if i want my eyes to get real close to a small pcb to fix it :) My vision is -1.25 to -1.50, so perhaps +3.00 reading glasses will fit normal vision for this. I did buy several cheap minus glasses and +2.00 +3.00 +4.00 glasses to test things, it is kind of cool, like having microscope eyes holding eyes like 4 inch from the piece one works with to see real good :) I still have minus glasses to test, perhaps i see the stars in the sky again properly with the -6.00, who knows, i remember it was fun as a kid to watch the stars. Those glasses are still in the mail so yeah, dont know if that works or what use i got for those ones :) The lens in the eyes becomes less flexible so one can not focus as good at close-up or distance when getting older, it happens to everyone. So i find these glasses fun, kind of like being a kid again and i bet i did not come that close even as a kid :)

OF COURSE the head was also open ....When first tried to open this thing there was so much rust and dust rust I used a mask and a vacum cleaner. Two week later the vacum cleaner developed a bad bearing (IMHO this dust made up to the motor and granaded the bearing. The UHER wasnt so bad on the leakage .... because it was resting on its back, but inside its leather case so the fumes had been working for years ..... Motor and amplifier still worked but the final score was kinda 2 UHERS with an open head plus a grananded vacuum cleaner. Dont vacuum this crap !!!!! I still have this unit.
