I had several recordings of the Cavaliers starting from the mid-50s on up, they were always one of my absolute favorite, drum and bugle c o r p s, from the Midwest in the East the golden knights, Garfield Cadets St Kevin's Emerald Knights were always my favorite Junior c o r p s. I was fortunate to compete against those cores numerous times in 1960 and 1961, when I was a member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York played snare drum. Today is January 18th 2024

My two uncles were in the 1962 Norwood Imperials. My one uncle had the solo on String of Pearls. I have yet to hear anyone match his performance that day. I marched with the Schaumburg Guardsmen in 1972 and we marched on the same field they did at the VFW Nationals. And again the Cavaliers won. They were great that day as well. Our drill instructor was the Royal Aires drill instructor that lost to Cavaliers in 1962. Ah those GLORY DAYS!

I played in the snare line that year. It was my rookie year. This recording is NOT from VFW Nationals in Minneapolis. It's a recording from earlier in the year.

always had a spot for this opening number after first hearing on the '61 green album in 62 . If you listen to different recordings you sometimes hear parts not heard before . For example the sopranos 16ths at 1:48. The bold accapella soprano lick at the end is so open to error yet they pull it off very well . The French military march song second number is unique in I never heard any other corps do it. It can be found on You Tube from the original picture Desert Song back in the "30s..
