Two sixty year old Newports both with manual transmissions. What are the odds? You did not see Chryslers with stick shifts back in 63! Good video.

An emery board, which is a stick with sandpaper on both sides that the ladies use for filing their fingernails, is great for cleaning points in a distributor. Beats a flimsy sheet of sandpaper; pick one up at any drug store for a dollar.

September 1988! Drove my then 1963 Newport from Denver Colorado to Fayetteville NC. Almost 1700 miles. Then Fayetteville to home in Carlisle PA. Put it in the paper and sold it before being stationed in Germany for 2 years. I now own a 1964 Newport 4 door hardtop. Had it since 1991.

My grandfather drove a 63 Newport from 63 until 2000 when we took his keys. There was nothing left of it under 5 Macco blue paint jobs and buckets of bondo, but he was really proud of it. 361 auto.

Great video. Enjoyed every minute of it. My parents had a 1962 Newport 2 door hardtop. I absolutely miss that car. Some drunk took care of that for us in November 1972. The one thing I did notice is that I didn't hear the gear reduction starter on the one you picked up. I have a thing for 9th generation Thunderbirds. I drove my 1986 Thunderbird to go get my 1985 Anniversary Edition Thunderbird back in 1995. More recently, I bought an 85 Thunderbird off Ebay, and my son and i made a 418-mile trip to pick it up. I was pleasantly surprised when it only took 3/4 of a tank of gas to make the trip home. 418 miles is not bad for a 302 V-8 with enough to go another 75 miles. I can remember my mom pulling into the gas station in the 1960s and asking the attendant to put $2.00 worth of regular gas in it. Back then, it was 8 gallons.

Sad your parents Newport met an early demise. It’s always an adventure when you drive a car for the first time and it’s going to be hundreds of miles. You haven’t become comfortable with the car yet because it hasn’t proven its reliability so it’s a 50/50 shot if you’ll make it back!

My maternal grandparents had a '64 4 door Newport when I was a kid in the late sixties early seventies. White with a black and white interior. I have fond memories of that car. Rode so well.

Back in the early 1980s my friend and his brother lived on a farm and they owned two 1963 Chryslers like this. One was a Newport and the other was a New Yorker. A bunch of us would pile into both of these tanks and run amok in their fields, spinning them, spraying turf and playing chicken like the immortals we thought we were. One night at a huge party there in front of a bonfire everyone took turns with sledgehammers beating one of them into oblivion before it went to the junkyard. That was NOT easy! Those things were made of some heavy gauge steel sheet metal. I think the car won that battle.

There’s another one kicking around in that area that’s a 361 3 speed car. Silver with purple flames. It comes up for sale on CL, or marketplace every couple of years. Haven’t paid attention to it since I moved to AVL (from Winchester). Good to see you at steel in motion. Check you again soon.

OMG! I stayed at the exact same motel, Twilight Motel, in Front Royal before I started my first drive down the Skyline Drive in October 2021! Whatta dump!! The owners still used the Convid 1984 plandemic to get out of serving breakfast. Yeah, real cheapos. Only one outlet in the entire room and only one plug-in was usable. Fortunately, I could use the sole bathroom outlet to charge my phone. I'll spend a little more for the upgrade next time I'm in the neighborhood. Oh yeah, love them Mopars too!

I do enjoy your videos of you picking up these old Chryslers? Your videos reminded me of my 63 Chrysler 300 that I own I bought it from the original owner it only had eighty-three thousand miles on it and this was in the early 80s I bought it from the original owner. It was white with blue interior? It had buckets seeds with push button shift on the dash it had the 383 four-barrel it was pretty quick for an old car and I ended up trading it in for an 85 mustang GT I needed a little more extra money for a down payment and I only had paid $250 for the car LOL so they gave me 500 at the time I thought it was a good deal I wish I wouldn't have sold it now knowing how much that car would be worth but you do things like that when you're young you don't know they're just an old car? But they are great videos of yours and I do enjoy watching them keep up the good work guys.
