My grandmother had a 63 and bought it new. Solid as a tank. 2 years later my dad bought a new 1965 barracuda:273 v8 3 speed manual with the Hurst shifter. Great memories.

These were such good cars, the slant six was a really good engine, I had three. 1970 Dart Swinger, a 1977 Plymouth Volare', and a 1980 Dodge Diplomat. I always loved those push button transmission controls. Always wondered why they were not more popular.

A poll killed the buttons in the 60s. They determined buyers wanted to fondle their sticks.

We had a similar Valiant when we lived in Newfoundland Canada when my dad was in the navy. Shipped it from norfolk to Argentia Bay. Car had a roof rack put on for the spare tires and gas cans. We lived off base for 6 months in a trailer until we got base housing. Base long ago closed.

I could be mistaken but I think the Canadian Valiant differed from the American in that the Canadian one had a similar front ( from the windshield forward) but the rest was Dodge Dart.

Correct. They were sold at both Dodge and Plymouth dealers as it was a stand-alone brand. @@ericripley9739

Down in OZ they were Chrysler Valiant , 4 door sedan and the Safari wagon , we got the 2 door hardtops in the late 60's , in 65 we got the the 273 V8 beside the 225 six , good cars .

These cars were actually very underrated you could order one starting in 64 with all the goodie’s that made the barracuda, the high compression 273 4barrel suspension upgrades etc they ran great and handled great not to mention were well built

In New Zealand we had our own versions of Valiants , but I remember there was an imported 1963 Signet 2 door pillarless coupe where I lived ,pretty exotic, it was in beautiful condition when I first saw it in the late seventies, but by 1983 it was looking quite dilapidated, hopefully it still out there somewhere and being looked after.

The Signet was called the Acapulco in Mexico.

Wouldn’t mind owning one; gotta have a three on the tree though. I wonder how many Signets rolled off the line with a manual trans that year. I have the AMT 1/25 scale version, at least.

My preference is the 4 speed (4 on the floor) I had one in high school in the signet v 200 the lingage was hurst , not only did the car run great but shifting gears was so precise it was a great setup

Definitely a grandma car. Until Oldsmobile started grabbed the market.
