Your detailed knowledge of vehicles never ceases to amaze me. Attending a car show with you would not only be a lot of fun but quite a learning experience. I would have to take several breaks for my brain and legs to catch up since I don't have near the energy as you. Maybe even a golf cart and an oxygen tank. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

In 1976 my first job was assistant new car detailer at a Chevy dealership....the regular parts runner wasn't at work, so they sent me. I asked which car I should drive and was told to take anything off the used car lot... which one, I asked and was told just pick one, and hurry up. There was a 65 396 Corvette on the lot, so....... The owner and every salesman were out front waiting for me when I got back. The only thing that saved me was having been told "Take anything".

I find it interesting that if someone doesn't know what knock-off wheels mean, they may think they are generic. Not knowing that you actually knock off the center peice with a rubber hammer. Aka knock off wheels. Great video, love it. Corvette's are awesome!

My friend Chuck had the Nassau Blue 65 convertible. I loved that car. 327 with an m21 4 speed. Hey... if you want to drive your Corvette, and not accumulate miles on the odometer... Just pull the Speedo gear out of the side of the transmission. Works on dozens of that era, gm cars and trucks. Buyer beware.

In the mid-70s, a friend of mine purchased one of those. We were in high school at the time. It was during an oil embargo or some other thing. Gas prices had sky-rocketed. Cars like that were dirt cheap. I don't recall what he paid for it. My guess is well under 3 grand.

I bought a 1972 Chevrolet Nova when I was 16. It was gold with a white painted top. I still have the car, but now it's orange. 2 things I found EXTREMELY interesting about the car is it had a driver's side only headlight washer. When you sprayed your windshield, it would also spray the driver's side headlight. I looked it up and apparently around 600 Nova's were made with that option. Very odd option in my opinion. The 2nd option the car had was a rear window defrost. It pulled air from the trunk and dispersed it on the rear glass.

The only car I ever STOLE off a dealer's lot for a joyride. Right after I graduated high school our local dealer got one to sell so during the day I took the key out of the ignition during the salesman's lunch hour and had a copy made. 2 weeks later I went to the dealership at 1 a.m. in the morning and using my copy key drove the car off the lot and went and picked up a friend and went cruising in it for 2 hours. Afterwards I brought it back to the other side of the dealership and parked it, wiped off my prints and walked back to my car and went home. Oh what a fond Memory I have for the 1965, 396 Corvette convertible.

If I were buying or selling a car of that value, I'd have to know the engine was the original or not. The info page in windshield shows it's believed to be the original. Also frame off restoration and no one checks the identification numbers on it? First time seeing 425 hp 396. It was always the 427. Maybe the 427 began in the 66. Not the original air cleaner and decals.4 wheel disk brakes were also an option beginning in the 65. He said only year for the 396? That engine was available until 71. Maybe that specific engine.😮 He's getting experience, and that's all any of us can do. He has used the V.I.N. on other video's. That's the best place to start with to identify the car. I watch Steve Magnante on his YT channel doing the Junk Yard Crawls. He talks about deferent vehicles in detail, and shows the magazine's with time period photos and information. Great stuff.

My sister used to date a guy that had oil wells on his property. The man had many cars, over 60, almost all were new Porsches. I always wondered why he wouldn't be buying these classics. If I were making 100s of thousands per day, I would buy every classic Vette, Mustang, Camaro, and Dodge I could. Even many old Ford and Chevy trucks. Newer cars are great, but damn. They don't make these any more. 😮

As a 15 year-old boy when these cars weren’t introduced along with the Z 16 Chevelle, I coveted each and every model I ever seen in person like the narrator I know every detail about all these cars The first year for the 396 in different forms hydraulic lifters solid lifters different carbonation but they started out at 3:25 horse 375 horse and the Corvette 425 horse, which was the solid lifter motor just wish I could own one of these iconic Engines or models for advertising purposes Chevrolet called them 396. They were actually 402 cubic but that sounded too much too close to the w motor😮 409 a different motor altogether. I always liked pointing out a 1970 Monte Carlo. I bought brand new back when I was in my early 20s. It said 396 on the air cleaner 400 QVC on the window sticker and on the sticker on the radiator 402 in.³.

There were a total of 7 different engine combinations in 1965. The 327 had five versions; Horsepower of 250, 300, 350, 365, and 375. Late in the year the 396 was introduced with two versions; 390 and 425 horsepower.
@thud9797
13 күн бұрын
There was no 390hp version of the 396, in 65 the 396 was a solid lifter monster rated at 425hp and that was the only 396 ever offered on Corvette. The 427 available in 66 had a hydraulic lifter version at 390hp and the solid lifter version originally rated at 450hp then lowered on paper to 425hp.

I mentioned to my brother who lives in the States that I would love one of the old classic American muscle cars. His response was that the build quality and engineering was terrible, odd panel gaps, trim that falls off and engines that had such high tolerances they sound like a bag of hammers until they warm up and the pistons expand to fill the cylinder properly. They also apparently handle like shit with many having leaf springs. Maybe I'll buy a shell one day, they do look great

@John-ip3xm
4 ай бұрын
This is correct for the '65 Corvette at 425 HP, using high performance intake, exhaust manifolds, high compression engine holds true for the Corvette. Not to be confused with the Chevelle, which is totally different engineered car.
@thud9797
12 күн бұрын
Chevrolet might still have been loosely following the 10 lb per hp GM rule so the 375hp was probably a little underrated. The Corvette was always exempt from this so the 425hp was probably a little overrated. I mean its the same engine no matter the car and on the dyno with the dyno headers the power output would be the same and what exhaust manifolds were used on the production car would have no effect on the dyno numbers.
