The 1966-1967 Sixers were 46-4 after 50 games, they ended the season with a then NBA record 68 wins, and they had 6 players average over 12 points a game. One could argue that Wilt Chamberlain had the greatest playoff run in NBA history. In 15 playoff games, Wilt averaged 21.7 points, 29.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 9.2 blocked shots.

Great playoff numbers for the Big Fella. We grew up 5 minutes from Wilt's original home in the Overbrook section of West Philly. My twin uncles went to Overbrook HS when Wilt attended. Luke Jackson was an unsung hero who was a rock solid player. Not many rebounds to be had by the opponents with Wilt and Luke on the floor. Luke was one of the first "power" forwards.
@pjtheory

@@jacksaller9385 If he played in today's game, the 6'9" 270 pound Jackson would be the NBA's best power forward. Despite being one of the strongest players in the league, Luke was a terrific long range jump shooter, and he would have flourished in a game that currently relies on the 3 point shot.
@jacksaller9385

@@pjtheory No argument from me. Luke had a very sweet jump shot and yes, very powerful. I grew up in Philly, and I can remember the NBA had occasional doubleheaders. One night the Sixers were on the ticket and played in game 1 at Boston Garden. I'm not sure who they played, but I do remember Jackson slam dunking on a break and taking down the rim. Today's NBA is stocked with terrific athletes whose basketball skills are generally one-dimensional. The all around player is no longer a centerpiece of today's NBA landscape. That landscape mainly consists of very good guards/small forwards, good power forwards, and mediocre centers. In terms of mythical matchups, the 1991-1993 threepeat Bulls were 1-6 against Hakeem's Rockets, so those who believe that the Bulls would have defeated Wilt's 1967 76ers are borderline delusional. The 1996-1998 threepeat Bulls would have had a better shot of defeating the 1967 76ers, but due to Luc Longley's limited skill set, Rodman would have been required to play some center. There is little chance that the 6'7" 225 pound Rodman would contain the 7'1" 295 pound Chamberlain nor would the Bulls backup power forwards be able to contain the 270 pound Luke Jackson. Despite advances in nutritional supplements and weight training, the 1966-1967 76ers still have the most physically imposing front line (e.g., Chamberlain, Jackson, and Chet Walker) in NBA history.

They had a single great and glorious season for 1 year, and 1 year only. They needed to win several more NBA titles to be a truly great, great, team. Unfortunately, the Billy Cunningham wrist injury in 68, followed by Wilt Chamberlain’s unhappiness and greed, and then management’s utter stupidity in breaking up the team with horrible trades, and not paying their star players, along with misusing Luke Jackson, prevented the 76ers from being just another 1 shot wonder. They could have won 3 or 4 more titles; because they were still in their prime, or just approaching their prime. Instead, by 72-73, they were the worst team in NBA history. Too bad. +andyr1313 You are 100% correct in what you say. To this day, I still feel sick about how Jack Ramsey ruined a great basketball team. He let Wilt go to the Lakers because he refused to make him a player coach and give him a substantial raise. He let Billy Cunningham go to the ABA. He traded Chet Walker to the Bulls for virtually nothing in return. He ruined Luke Jackson's legs so he had to retire prematurely. He traded away Wally Jones to the Bucks for nothing in return. With better management, the Sixers would have won at least 2 more titles after 1967. It was a disgrace really. They would have been right there with the Knicks in the early 70's to challenge them for NBA supremacy, if Ramsey hadn't ruined the team. Instead, by 1973, the team that went 68-13 in 1967, won a grand total of 9 games. An absolute and total disgrace.
