Must surely be the pinnacle of a motoring experience to drive such an iconic mechanical and automotive design!

I love this so much! This is back when the 911 truly was a lower, wider and more powerful Beetle...so raw and analog😎

I've had 8 Porsches, My first one was a 65 912. Then a 68 911L Targa. Indrove every day for 10 years over 170K miles. The older 911 were lighter with torsion bar suspension. None of the newer Porsches have that same feel. I have to admit the Boxster come very close.

Modern Econobox: I will outrun you in a heartbeat. Yah, but so what though. Such a fine fine Beast. I almost bought an '87 Carrera but otherwise closest I've ever been is a 2002tii.

Back when driving was an interactive experience and you had to pay strict attention to what you were doing or you might end up upside down in a ditch. Miss those days. There's no doubt the modern cars are much better engineered but modern "driving" is much too passive.

Are you starting out in second gear? Is that a 6-speed? Just curious don't know a lot about Porsches of that vintage..
@charliehayward6356

Looks like the factory 5 speed, which is a 901 gearbox. 1st gear is opposite reverse (1st is back, reverse is up, respectively) then H pattern for 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Жыл бұрын
this is what they'd call a "dogleg gearbox". 1st is down, with R top.

@@SocialismSucks 6 speed transmissions actually existed in 1966...in F1 ! (the BRM T82 gearbox being one of the first "6 gears" in F1)

Beautiful car, yet atrocious shifting. The 60 year old car operates too well for the 60 year old driver. Revs dropping too fast for this man to complete a proper shift in time.
