Two local Surrey operators were running these units when I started in house construction in 1972. Both were quite capable operators. One fellow, Bob Cockerill, bought a new machine in 1973. I believe it was a 580ck. It was two lever and he struggled for a bit getting used to it. The other operator was Albert Cenerini. He could get a crazy amount of work out of that machine. I had him do an entire wintertime house excavation with it on a sopping wet lot in North Langley. He unloaded, leapfrogged the ditch, lifted bucket and hoe. The entire machine sunk right to the oil pan. He just carried on leapfrogging all the way in, put a clean-out bucket on the hoe and proceeded to dig a 9' deep basement. I recall he cut a swath 9' down x 50' long for the back wall. The machine was on a sidehill for this. When he thought he was close, I checked levels with transit and he was +- one half inch! This was typical for Albert. You had to see him operate to believe it. I would never have thought a little 530 capable of such work. At one point one of excavation stakes marking the perimeter fell over flat into the clay glup. He saw me about to head through the more to stand it up and waved me off. I watched him reach out with the hoe and smoothly stand the stake up with one tooth, then press it in. That is control!

Very clean & straight machine. Usually more fish plate and weld than original steel on a unit this old. Thanks for braving the briars to get this footage.

Really good shape!! Usually they're so busted up, there's more weight in weld than original metal... Yes sir, that would be a generator.. when everything is working good, they're great.. when it not working so good, they're junk. Thank you Skadill!!!

Lovely old girl. Almost looks like she gets used still from time to time. Not all overgrown or busted up. Great find.

Well, here's another trip down memory lane! I proved that I would never be a backhoe operator on a machine much like this. Back in '72 or '73. Barely got the hang of the front bucket. Look at those Firestone T-110's on the front. Look brand new, probably haven't made 'em for 30+ years!

Wow a flashback to when I was a kid. My dad had a 530ck he bought in 72. He originally charged $15 an hour for it.

This is the FIRST backhoe I ever operated ( or say sat on my uncle's lap) he drove I got to do the front bucket. Thay had that other lift cylinder on right side facing forward for front lift. Later on in my many jobs I worked for a Utility Dept. thay had a belly blade ( grader blade ) behind front tires it worked pretty good as a grader we graded the gravel roads to are water storage tanks. Fun fun times. Thank you for video.

I have one, but with pto/3pt hitch and gas engine. Seat's adjustable in mine (or would be if not rusted up). Strangest thing to me on these is that extra "hydra-level" cylinder on the right side of the loader. Mine works, but the weld tells the tale of it popping the top off the loader frame upright at some point in the past. Thank you for the video.

a rare treat from you good sir, one that is waiting on the next project to start, she's a bonny and a joy as they say. I had a 580bck I tried to go logging with... was a great machine for what it was meant for, not so much what I was trying to do with it LOL, traded it for a down payment on a excavator

My buddy's got one of those, good runner we just did some seal work on it. No cab on his. Converted his to a one wire alternator. Found the original shop manual a while back in a stack of books.

My father has one of these. Still uses it to clean up odd jobs, fence rows etc around his property. Not sure the exact year off hand, but his is a gas, no cab, still has the same front tires on it as well. Foot pedals for the rear swing. It’s an animal.... Not my cup of tea to operate, but he makes it work. Thanks for sharing

Wow, that tractor is clean. Even has some modern wire loom plastic over the cables. HAHA...that must have been the Cab trend in the 60's. My buddy has an old Michgan 75A loader (6 cyl waukesha gas job) and the cab is so small and narrow, you have to go outside just to change your mind.

Been watching your videos for years Skadill, I've been a fan of the old equipment my whole life as well. Always hated the Case 3 stick and 2 pedal controls, the old 4 handles were much easier to run. This one must be from before they even created the 3 stick 2 pedal pattern..

We had a 580C at my old job and literally nobody there could dig with those controls. I can make the dirt fly with the standard old Ford 2 stick controls, those were perfection.i still see new production cases with those 3 stick controls and always wonder who the hell would want to buy it like that? Lol

Reminds me of the old flip seat 4-lever Ford hoes. I still like a 4-lever but I have big hands and could grab 2 at a time easy. And a lever swing beat the Case foot swing and the Drott heel/toe by a MILE! Or more! MUCH more. And no, I left a lot to be desired on a Prentis too. Thanks pal! Another good one!

@@johnchoate6909 If I'd had one I'd hooked another lever to it and been done with it. I know forestry products have foot swing but they've also got bunches for the hands to do. I could run one but just barely but that was because I cut my teeth on a 4-lever Ford. Blessings 2 U!

Im cracking up at the thought of a guy going to the dealer to look at this thing and most likely not even complaining about the fact you can barely fit between the steering wheel and the seat as back then it is what it is. Now a days you’d probably lose a sale due to that 😂
